Dear Parishioners,

Catholic Schools Week

I wish to thank all who worked behind the scenes to make our celebration of Catholic Schools Week so nice. Thanks to all who participated in the various events that were held. Please know that our students are most grateful for the sacrifice and generosity that makes it possible for them to be given a Catholic School education.

New Ceiling Church Vestibule

With my fingers crossed on both of my hands, I tell you that the roof/ceiling in the Church vestibule which has leaked throughout my ten years with you has been fixed!!???!! Since there has not been any sign of leaking for the last four months, new ceiling and lighting has been added to the Church vestibule.

I wish to recognize and thank Jack Tolchin, Vince Hollister, and Jack Finnegan who volunteered their time and talent working with Jerry McGuckin, our Maintenance Director, to install the ceiling and lighting.

The cost of the materials totaled $2,051. I thank everyone whose financial support of the Church makes it possible for us to maintain our buildings and property.

Confirmation Meeting for Parents

The parents/guardians of students who are in Level 6 CCD, Grade 5 in Saint Anselm School, and in Nazareth Academy who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Fall (2012) will meet on Wednesday evening, February 8th from 7:00 – 8:30 PM in the Church hall.

God bless you,

Father Dunleavy

Saint Anselm All Star

Dorothy Elitz

Dorothy grew up in both St. Leo and St. Timothy Parishes and met Joe while he was playing football for a local team. When they married in 1953, Joe was in the Navy and they moved several times before settling in Saint Anselm Parish, which had not been established when they arrived.

Over the years, Dorothy volunteered as a lunch and yard Mom. She belonged to the Ladies of St. Anselm and captained the handmade booth at the Christmas Bazaar for eight years. Dorothy also volunteers for the Carnival. She has been proclaiming the Word of the Lord as a Lector for 24 years, and has also been a Eucharistic Minister. Dorothy credits the Legion of Mary for transforming her life. She and Joe have been involved with the Legion since its formation at St. Anselm by Father Foley 23 years ago. Two of her favorite assignments are visiting the Delaware Valley Nursing Home to help the priest with Mass. She also prays the rosary each Friday of the month with the residents in the chapel.

Dorothy and Joe visit homes in the parish with the Pilgrim Virgin encouraging families to welcome the statue of Mary and to say the rosary on a daily basis. The Legion also welcomes new parishioners and offers condolence calls to those who have lost a family member. Dorothy appreciates the guidance of their moderator, Father Fitzgerald.

Creating and making banners for various parish organizations is one of her many talents. Dorothy and Joe were ball room dancers for ten years and she made all her costumes while competing. Dorothy also uses her theatrical talent by directing and participating in the Christmas shows performed for the Legion.

Joe and Dorothy have six children: Diane, David, Carol, Donna, Dottie and Joe along with fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dorothy appreciates the support and guidance she has received from many of the priests who served this parish, especially Father David, Father Chylinski and Father Dunleavy. Dot and Joe feel blessed to be a part of a parish with such kind and caring people.

Last but certainly not least, Dorothy is especially thankful for Joe, her loving and caring husband.

Vincentian Message…

In the Gospel today, we find that Jesus would rise very early before dawn and go to a deserted place to pray and then he went out to preach and to heal.

Praying for the poor can bring the love and peace of Jesus to those who live in fear and doubt, loneliness and dread.
