KANSAS CITY POWER & LIGHT DISTRICT ANNOUNCES WILLCO TECHNOLOGIES AS PRESENTING SPONSOR OF DISTRICT RHYTHMS CONCERT SERIES
WillCo partners with District to provide free community concerts, events and consumer energy-efficiency education
Kansas City, MO— The Kansas City Power & Light District proudly announced today the addition of Kansas City-based WillCo Technologies as the newest Power & Light District partner and presenting sponsor of the District Rhythms summer concert series.
WillCo is a locally-owned energy-efficiency consulting company, headed by President/ CEO Kevin Williams. WillCo provides information technology solutions for government entities and other industry sectorsby creating tailored enterprise solutions that connect information and people. WillCo’s goal is to educate the Kansas City community on energy efficiency through the District Rhythms concert series and its overall partnership with the Kansas City Power & Light District.
“This venue gives WillCo the opportunity to positively impact our local community. We want to fully support cultural diversity in Kansas City and believe that the KC Power and Light District is the right place to do it,” said Kevin Williams, President/CEO WillCo Technologies. “By bringing in different musical genres that would not otherwise be heard in the District, we will hopefully help open the hearts and minds of our community and educate them on energy efficiency.”
District Rhythms presented by WillCo features seven Sunday evening concerts – a combination of R&B, American soul and old-school, funk-style shows. All concerts are free and open to the public ages 21+.In addition to District Rhythms, WillCo will sponsor a free Hispanic concert series in the fall.
“WillCo is about making life better for Kansas Citians, in the short and long term,” said Nick Benjamin, Executive Director of the Power & Light District. “That’s a goal that we share and support and we are excited about what this partnership will bring to downtown Kansas City, this year and in the future.”
The series kicks off on Sunday, July 18th, with Chicago-based band Jabon featuring Darryl Terrell. The title song to their new CD “Heaven” is currently played by radio stations across the country.
On July 25th, District Rhythms features a well-known R&B band that originated in Kansas City, Bloodstone. Bloodstone quickly became one of the premiere R&B bands of the 60’s and 70’s with several platinum and gold hits, including “Natural High” and “We Go a Long Way Back.”
Other upcoming District Rhythms concerts include: Rose Royce (8/1), Alexander O’Neal & Cherrelle (8/8), JC and Live Version (8/15), Lo Key (8/22), Kharizmah (8/29).
