CONTEXT

The National Trust for Scotland is an independent charity set up in 1931 for the preservation and conservation of natural and human heritage that is significant to Scotland and the world.

The Trust has gone on to become Scotland's largest membership organisation and a leader in conserving and promoting the nation's treasured places and collections so that they can be enjoyed by present and future generations.

The Customer and Cause team exists to inspire visits to our places across Scotland, grow membership and drive donations to support our work.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The wider purpose of the role is to help drive the National Trust for Scotland’s ability to conserve Scotland’s built and natural heritage under its care.

The specific purpose of the role is to develop inspiring designs across different mediums, to present a consistent, high quality and innovative view of the National Trust for Scotland to meet the needs of our internal and external audiences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Working with the Head of Content to develop and implement a refreshed visual style for the Trust that can be applied across multiple applications and media
  2. Develop, update and maintain an online ordering system to enable properties to “self-serve” for basic design jobs and standardised branded materials.
  3. Work with internal clients to develop design concepts, agree approaches and deliver final designs to meet their briefs and within their deadlines.
  4. Monitor and uphold the consistent applications of all branding elements, ensuring that the brand is strengthened, promoted effectively and appropriately via all internal and external activities.
  5. Work with the Digital Engagement Manager and Executive to ensure creative executions work across digital channels.
  6. Work with external agencies to deliver projects to a consistently high standard and ensure the integrity of the brand’s visual style.
  7. You’ll maintain and enhance your personal knowledge, skills and networks by playing an active role in the appropriate professional bodies

SCOPE OF ROLE

People Management

  • No line management
  • Key internal relationships includingproperties, fundraising, communications and marketing teams
  • Manage external agencies as necessary

Financial Management

  • None

Technical knowledge:

  • Thorough understanding and experience of design, print and digital publishing processes;
  • Extensive hands-on working knowledge of Apple Macs and PCs;
  • Highly proficient user of Adobe software (InDesign/Photoshop) as well as Microsoft suite (Excel, Word);
  • Understanding of digital channels including social media.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

The above outlines the key skills the job holder will need to possess and exercise. In addition, either knowledge of or experience in the following is required:

Essential

  • Degree in Graphic Design or equivalent practical experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to sell an idea.
  • Excellent IT skills, especially with design and photo-editing software.
  • Exceptional creativity and innovation.
  • Strong team working skills.
  • Experience of working within a busy studio managing multiple projects.
  • Understanding of design principals across multiple mediums.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • An understanding of the latest design trends and their role within a commercial environment.
  • Professional approach to time, costs and deadlines.

Desirable

  • Ux/UI design experience.
  • Animation/After Effects experience.
  • Film Production Experience.
