Report on Davos Inequality Action Week

Action influencing objective:

The World Economic Forum held its Annual Meeting during the winter from 17-20th January 2017 in Davos, Switzerland. In this regard, harnessing with Oxfam global campaign spike of “Even it Up”, on the occasion of the World Economic Forum, Tax Reforms Nexus Essential Services team from Oxfam Pakistan has made special efforts and designed an action week in solidarity with Global Campaign Spike and were successful able to build a national momentum to global, generating discourse to reduce inequality.

In this regards, the “Human Economy” report summary in Urdu and English, new documentary on “Neoliberalism” and a Song titled as “HUM Nujawan” by our campaign ambassador Jawad Ahmad, that put across massage about reducing inequalities and disparities between the rich and the poor has been lunched at various forums and in media at larger pace so as to reach at maximum people for larger impact and awareness among the people.

Event 1: Human Economy Report summary launch in Urdu and English language:

In this regard, for larger understanding and impact the summary of human economy report is translated into Urdu. That translated summary on human economy report is made part of all the events conducted in series. Moreover, that version of the report is disseminated at various forums and also on social media networks. Besides, it has been given enough space in Urdu and English newspapers. For further, disseminating the information, various messages are aired on radio to boost the campaign.

Event 2: Song, documentary & human economy report summary launch at Hyderabad, Sindh

Moreover, this report is also launched on16th January in Hyderabad Sindh in Urdu language along with song ‘Hum Nojawan’ and the documentary about ‘Neo-liberalism’. Besides, the report, song and documentary were also presented among farmers and communities’ people, because ultimately these farmers and communities’ people are affectees due the policies made by our government. During the launch in Hyderabad, the event updates were widely shared among country office, civil society, media, youth, and general public. Also, info graphic was printed and dissemination among the participants. Besides to make the event more impactful poster on inequality (Even it Up Campaign) was got published and disseminated. The launching updates were also shared on social media and on different networks for wider circulation. The launch over there was covered by both print and electronic. After event, its findings have largely been disseminated in social media network for bigger impact and influence.

Event 3: Electronic media Coverage on two TV channels

During campaigning in Hyderabad, our celebrity Mr. Jawad Ahmad, Pakistan's famous singer and our campaign ambassador participated in two TV talk shows. Where he talked about human economy report and increasing economic inequality in Pakistan, where he also discussed about taxation system in Pakistan in which the poor is skewed. These talk shows especially advocated for the rights of general public. The following are the TV channels and its links to watch out:

Event 4: Song and Documentary Launch at Karachi Press Club, Karachi, Sindh

The campaigning to build up discourse and momentum continues. On 17th January at Karachi press club the song and documentary were presented. The event was attended by large number of civil society, media personnel, youth, general public and business communities. For making that ground of launching the updates and links regarding event were shared at various networks and forums. Also, info graphic was printed and dissemination among the participants. Besides to make the event more impactful poster on inequality (Even it Up Campaign) was got published and disseminated. The launch also got published in various Urdu and English newspapers. At broader level the information was shared on different social media forums and networks and they further were guided to share to larger audiences, besides the messages also were aired on the radio.

Event 5: Launch of Human Economy report presentation at Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (RCCI) “All Pakistan Chamber President’s Conference,(APCP):

All Pakistan Chambers Presidential Conference was held on 23-24th January, 2017, at Bhurban in where around 50 participants from different walks of life includes media, inter/national organizations, private sector, and government representatives participated. In this high profile event the summary of “Human Economy” report of urdu and english translation was launched. Besides, the posters, info graphics and folders were disseminated and the Human Economy agenda is incorporated in an “Annual Declaration” of this RCCI conference which will be tabled to Finance Minister of Pakistan, signed by all Chambers of Pakistan.

Activity 6: Participated in Photo Position Action

There are two pictures for photo action from our side,

1.One with the background of a tomb, which is associated with our Nation's Father Quad-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan.

2.The other picture is at Karachi Press Club on the occasion of our new song on Youth as well as Human Economy launch.

In both pictures, there is one celebrity person standing in the middle with black coat named Mr. Jawad Ahmed, one of the Pakistan’s famous singer and our campaign Ambassador.

Activity 7: IEC Material:

The information, education and communication material was printed and spread among the large communities with inequality info graphics and an additional poster sent to almost 50 partner organizations as well as posted on office walls. The posters have also been sent to different donor/ international organizations through our funding department.

Event 10: Equality Festival – Lahore

The event was organized on 30th, January, 2017 at cultural complex, Kaddafi Stadium Lahore. It was attended by larger audiences from various walks of life such as youth, civil society, media, inter/national organizations and academia. Documentary on Neoliberalism, human economy report presentation in urdu were presented. After that ‘Bhola’ song by Jawad Ahmad was played. To understand the ground realities, the experiences of growers, labourers, and small business entrepreneurs facing inequality in their daily lives were shared and discussed. Then song ‘Hum Nojawan’ by Jawad Ahmad was played. Finally, Mr. Jawad Ahmed talked about inequality, human economy and disparity that our society is facing.
