PRIMARY DUTIES
The C-BIG Repository is an open science collection of biological samples, clinical information, imaging and genetic data from patients with neurological disease as well as from healthy control subjects. This platform was created at the neuro to allow patients to actively participate in advancing our understanding of the diseases affecting them. Data and samples collected in the C-BIG Repository will be made available to research teams with scientifically and ethically valid proposals around the world.
The candidate will support our ongoing research and training activities on big data and development, including conducting research. The candidate will join C-BIG multidisciplinary team performing tasks in support of funded studies and sponsored research agreements in relation to neurological diseases. The main responsibilities of the research assistant include:
  • Research responsibilities in ongoing projects related to neurological disease
  • Human clinical sample handling, tissue and sample processing and storage using set protocols
  • Database maintenance and keeping records related to clinical samples and associated paperwork
  • Development and implementation of standard operating procedures related to biological sample processing and handling
  • Liaise with clinical research unit (CRU) and other stakeholders.
  • Request management and shipment of samples

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in neurosciences, immunology or related field
OTHER QUALIFYING SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Preference will be given to candidates with research experience in cellular, phenotypic and functional testing
  • Experience in cell culture, q-PCR, flow cytometry, western blots etc.
  • Previous research experience (GLP-experience or experience handling human clinical samples an asset)
  • Experience related to maintenance and operation of a laboratory information management system (LIMS) or biological database an asset.
  • Good interpersonal skills and a strong capacity for teamwork and critical thinking
  • Detail oriented, excellent organizational and communication skill
  • Fluent in English and French
