JOB PURPOSE:

As a member of the Grounds team to be responsible to the University Head Gardener/Senior Gardener for the delivery of an efficient, quality, cost effective, customer orientated service.
The role will have a focus on specific areas of expertise which will be indicated by the “essential” components of the Job Description during the recruitment process. Additionally, there will be a requirement to gain sufficient knowledge across some of the range of systemsto ensure maintenance support.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To assist the University Head Gardener/Senior Gardener in the care and maintenance of all University grounds, gardens, sports fields, recreational areas and formal gardens.
  2. To be responsible for the cleaning up and disposal of garden and general litter/debris in the course of daily work for both soft and hard landscape areas.
  3. The salting and clearing of pathways as directed (may be asked to come in early and paid accordingly)
  4. The correct application of chemicals and fertilisers at appropriate times, ensuring that manual handling and Health & Safety regulations are adhered to (a certificate of competence is attained if not already held, then training will be given).
  5. To be responsible for the daily servicing of equipment and machinery and to ensure regular servicing and maintenance is carried out in consultation with the Head Gardener/Senior Gardener.

P.A.1 / P.A. 6 Knapsack (Certificate of competence in the principles of the safe handling and application of pesticides using pedestrian hand held equipment).
P.A.2a Tractor mounted (Certificate of competence in the safe use of self-propelled, mounted and trailed horizontal boom sprayers). / D

Experience of working as a Gardener.
