3.World IP Day Celebrations – April 26, 2015

World IP Daywas launched in the year 2000 by theWorld Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)to promote and protect creative ideas, including music, art, trademarks, writings and inventions. AIPLA, working with local IP law associations, Chambers of Commerce, cities, and law schools, celebrates World IP nationally, and internationally, in a grand fashion.
The event theme for 2015 World IP Day is "music." Join us in one of 17 cities across the country where World IP Day will be celebrated to explore the vast changes that are currently shaping the industry and hear the opinions on the future from those that are heavily involved in the process. The earliest celebration will be April 10, 2015 at the USPTO in Alexandria, VA and celebrations in other cities including Boston, Minneapolis, Denver, Palo Alto, Detroit, and many others will follow before the end of April. 4.2015 IP Association Roundtable Discussions – Save the Date!

The AIPLA IP Law Associations Committee will be conducting IP Law Association Roundtables between May 11th and May 20th. Roundtables give you an opportunity to discuss issues of importance with fellow IP law associations in your region. If you have topics you would like addressed at the Roundtable, or if you have other feedback, you can send them in response to this email. 5.Speaker Assistance for Your Programming

Many IP law associations ask us for assistance in identifying speakers for local programs on various IP topics. Accordingly, our Microsite includes the programs from recent AIPLA meetings to provide you with the speakers at those meetings. 6.AIPLA Amicus Activity

AIPLA consistently prepares and submits Amicus briefs to various Federal courts. The most recent brief was in the following case:

  • SCA Hygiene Products Aktiebolag v. First Quality Baby Products, LLC, Fed. Cir., No. 2013-1564, amicus brief filed 3/10/2015.

7.June 16, 2015 – AIPLA 2015 Electronic & Computer Patent Law Summit – Dallas

The Sixth Annual Electronic & Computer Patent Law Summit is scheduled for June 16th at the SMU Dedman School of Law in Dallas. This single-day multi-session seminar will cover a broad range of topics including:

  • New Patent Office initiatives, particularly updated examination guidelines related to patent subject matter eligibility along with perspectives from litigation and prosecution practitioners from the United States and abroad in response thereto;
  • Litigation updates surrounding divided infringement and RAND/FRAND;
  • Open source; and
  • Trade Secret considerations.
