Communication and Language
  • Join in with time to talk; listen to others and ask questions
  • Listen and explore though a wide variety of Fiction and Non-Fiction books.
  • To listen to each other’s views and ideas on the festivals.
  • To take part in the KS1 & EYFS Nativity, learning the songs and the Christmas Story from the bible.
  • To follow stories without pictures or props.
  • Begin to respond to stories with relevant comments, questions or actions.
  • Showing listening skills through Ginger’s rules. Begin to listen and respond appropriately to what others say.
/ Physical development
  • To develop fine motor skills trough one handed tools, moulding salt dough, exploring coloured rice and lentils, exploring and creating with play-dough and practising letter formation.
  • To use gross motor skills when writing with chalk and exploring outside to support fine motor skills.
  • To become aware of the need to be safe in school, especially when tackling new challenges as well as, considering and managing risks.
/ Personal, social and emotional development
  • Introduce the different festivals with the understanding that we are all different and we celebrate different festivals with our families.
  • To respect others’ opinions, beliefs and feelings; showing sensitivity to their needs.
  • To be able to adapt behaviour to different events.
  • To be confident with participating in whole school church services and KS1 & EYFS Nativity.

Literacy
  • Exploring phase 2 phonetic sounds from letters and sounds using a wide range of activities throughout the day.
  • Beginning to create CVC words using phase 2 sounds.
  • Explore picture books and begin to develop an awareness in comprehension through interpreting the pictures per page.
  • To begin to write for a purpose using our phonetic awareness.
  • Writing a letter to Father Christmas.

Understanding the world
  • Introduce the different festivals with the understanding that we are all different and we celebrate different festivals with our families.
  • To begin to understand the stories and facts behind each festival.
  • To join in and enjoy class celebrations.
  • To talk about past and present events in their own lives and the lives of their family.
  • Begin to know that different people have different beliefs, attitudes, customs and traditions and why it is important to treat them with respect.
/ Expressive arts and design
  • Re-create fireworks with glitter and glue.
  • Begin to understand why we have a remembrance day and create poppies.
  • Mould salt dough into diva lamps, imprinting a pattern on the outside. Once dried decorate with paint and glitter. For the children to imagine how the streets were lit up to guide Rama and Sita home.
  • Make mince pies and other food related to Christmas.
  • Aloow time for the children to create, design and role-play within these festivals.

Active Learning
