To ensure a successful exam, please follow all instructions carefully.

You MUST arrange a ride for the day of your exam. If you fail to arrange acceptable transportation, your procedure will be rescheduled. If you must cancel or reschedule your appointment, please call your doctor’s office within 5 business days of your scheduled procedure to avoid a cancellation fee.

Use the prep kit which you purchased form your physician’s office. You will also need to purchase the following supplies:

·  64 oz. Clear Liquids (NOT red): Gatorade, G2, Gatorade Ice, Powerade, Powerade Zero or Crystal Light are acceptable.

·  Baby Wipes (optional)

7 DAYS BEFORE YOUR COLONOSCOPY:

If you take aspirin you may continue to take them as usual unless otherwise instructed by your physicians. You should hold other NSAIDS such as Advil, Motrin, Celebrex or Ibuprofen for 7 days. If you take Vitamin E, fish oil or Omega 3, please hold these for 7 days prior to your procedure. Ask your prescribing doctor for specific instructions if you take a blood thinner like Plavix, Pradexa, Clopidogrel, Coumadin, Warfarin, Effient or Lovenox, if you need to continue your blood thinner please contact our office 1 week before your procedure. If you have diabetes you may continue your medication prior to the procedure but these medications will need to be held the day of surgery until after your procedure unless otherwise directed. If you are taking insulin, please inform your Endocrinologist as this may need to be adjusted.

3 DAYS BEFORE YOUR COLONOSCOPY:

Stop eating all nuts, seeds and popcorn

1 DAY BEFORE YOUR COLONOSCOPY:

·  Upon waking in the morning, mix the large bottle of Polyethylene Glycol (white bottle with purple cap) with 64 oz. of your Gatorade or Crystal Light and refrigerate

·  You may eat a light breakfast consisting of only 2 eggs, bacon and yogurt until 11am-12noon.

·  Begin clear liquid diet at 12 noon. Drink at least 8-10 large glasses of water or clear liquid during the day to avoid dehydration.

·  At 3 pm take 2 Bisacodyl (brown pouch) tablets with 8 oz. of clear liquid.

·  At 6 pm –Drink 8 oz. of the Polyethylene Glycol/Gatorade solution and continue drinking an 8 oz. glass every 15 minutes until the solution has been consumed set a timer for every 15 minutes to keep pace.

·  At 8 pm- Take your last 2 Bisacodyl (brown pouch)

·  Gatorade, Pedialyte or Powerade ALCOHOL

·  Clear broth or bouillon Red or purple items of any kind

·  Coffee or tea (no milk or non-dairy creamer) Milk or non-dairy creamers

·  Carbonated and non-carbonated soft drinks Noodles or vegetables in soup

·  Kool-Aid (not red) or other fruit-flavored drinks Juice with pulp

·  Strained fruit juices (no pulp) Liquid you cannot see through

·  Jell-O, popsicles, hard candy

DAY OF YOUR COLONOSCOPY:

·  Nothing to drink after midnight other than prep! You may take all of your morning medications as usual with 4 oz. of water up to 3 hours before your procedure.

·  4 hours before your scheduled procedure time, mix the Magnesium Citrate (red pouch) with 10 oz. of water, pour over ice and drink. Take 80mg Simethicone (yellow pouch) tablet with water

·  3 hours before your scheduled procedure time, stop drinking all clear liquids

You are ready for the exam if you followed all the instructions and your stool is no longer formed, but clear or yellow liquid.
