MATHEMATICS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
SELECTED TOPICS IN SECONDARY MATHEMATICS FOR
HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS GRADES 8-12
Data Analysis, Probability and Statistics, and Discrete Mathematics
Five Saturday meetings during Spring Semester 2009, six one-day sessions in June, and one Saturday
follow-up meeting in the Fall to obtain 6 tuition-free graduate credits*!
OBJECTIVES: To develop a cadre of high school grades 8 through 12 teachers from each participating school district, who will:
· develop a deeper understanding of Ohio & NCTM Standards-based mathematics content in Data Analysis, Probability and Statistics, and Discrete Mathematics
· be trained in the use and development of inquiry-based activities rich in problem solving and discrete mathematics concepts, with appropriate assessment strategies
· be trained in the integration of graphing calculators TI-84 and TI-NSpire
· partake in the creation of a community of mathematics teachers/learners using the Internet as the medium.
ACTIVITIES: Project participants will:
· attend five (8-2:30) Saturdays during Spring Semester 2008, six one-day sessions in June, and a Fall Semester follow-up Saturday meeting
· use and develop inquiry activities appropriate for their classrooms.
· receive a free TI-Nspire/TI-84 graphing calculator or a TI-Nspire CAS
· keep a reflective journal throughout the project

Six graduate credits are tuition-free. Facility fee will be approximately $220.
(*Graduate credits can count towards ‘Masters Plus 30’ category, but not towards a Masters Degree.)
