E-commerce, especially B2C, requires innovative ideas and little capital investment. Amazon.com, eBay are examples of successful e-commerce e-businesses. Their CEO’sstarted with little money, but had brilliant ideas and eventually created a successful empire.

Sam, Lisa and Lee do not want to be left behind. They are full of innovative ideas and are thinking about starting an on line delivery service, called Green_Delivery_rus.com. They are not sure if they can get that domain name at this point. If this name is taken, they would be willing to look at other attractive names. The purpose of this e-business will be to provide services to people who are either too busy or are not capable of performing tasks on their own.

Initially they want to restrict it to THREE services.

  • Take food orders for delivery(not necessarily deliver them)
  • Make emergency doctor’s appointments
  • Provide and make appointments forRides to locations such as the airport, friend’s home, regular appointment etc..to needy

Service 1: Take Food Orders
Green_Delivery_rus.com will provide links to menusof severallocal restaurants on their web site. A customer will select items from the menu. Green_deliver_rus.com will charge a referral service fee but will notprovideany actual deliveries at this time

Service 2: Make Emergency Appointments:
A person may need to make emergency appointments.Green_Delivery will facilitate this service by providing links to local hospitals on their web site and will charge an appointmentreference fee for the service.

Service 3: Provide rides

Sam is an engineer but knows the importance of project and systems. He convinced his partners to hire your team to help them in the planning and designing of this system. As a systems consultant, you areasked to plan and design a “green” system for Green_deliver_rus.com.

A transcript of your meeting with Sam, Lisa and Lee is attached

Date 5/5/2010

Present: Sam, Lisa, Lee, the “A” team,

Sam began discussing the dream project which he described as on line delivery system that will cater to busy individuals and retiree. Initially, the business will NOT deliver or provide services but will only facilitate web access of relevant businesses. For this convenience they will charge a yet to be determined “fee”.They want to keep track of number of hits on their site and resulting sales, and would like to collect information on customer for data mining purposes.
Green_deliver_rus.com isenvironmentally conscious and want to provide “Green” system (hardware and software). They firmly believe in “sustainability”, which is defined as “.. meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs..” see They are very proud of the word “green” in their name.

They want all document delivered by July 13, 2010.

During question and answer session, they revealed they have a budget of $500,000, and would be willing to consider putting in more cash, if needed and can be justified. Sam understands that many of the items (hardware & software) and personnel costs are not known and may have to be collected from the Internet. Sam would like you to provide him with the list of references you used in getting those numbers. He also recommended that team members read the definition of project planning available at wikipedia and study related links in the definition.
