PSEG…Making Good Health Work for You
At PSEG a healthy workforce is essential to the continued success of the company. Through PSEG’s strategic health and wellness programs, employees have the opportunity to engage in their health wherever they are on the health continuum. Whether employees are healthy and have very low health risks, if they are struggling with several health risks, or if they have a chronic condition, there is something available for everyone. The goal at PSEG is to keep the healthy people healthy and seek to improve the health status of those at moderate and high risk.
For well over a decade, PSEG has provided resources to employees to educate them on their health status. These resources include Health Risk Assessments (HRA), Onsite Biometric screenings and access to health coaches. In 2010, for a segment of their population, PSEG embarked on a path to incorporate a medical premium discount, called the ‘Healthy Living Premium Discount Program’, for those employees that completed the HRA, biometric screening and/or declared themselves tobacco free. The more programs that an employee participated in, the greater the discount. The results were extremely positive.
Participation for this group of employees (approximately 3,500) increased significantly from prior years’ participation rates of around 40%. In 2010, for those employees who elected and enrolled in 2011 medical benefits:
• 63% completed all the programs,
• 82% completed 2 of the 3 programs and
• 93% completed 1 of the 3 programs.
