The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Bangladesh would like to engage a Freelance Writer for Dhaka office on a consultancy assignment for the period July – December 2013.

Purpose of Assignment:

The consultant will be engaged to write features, case studies and other external relations material on key UNICEF Programmes in Bangladesh as and when needed for publication on the UNICEF Bangladesh website, UNICEF global website and in the UNICEF Bangladesh newsletter.

Major duties and responsibilities:

The consultant to attend briefing session at UNICEF and visit UNICEF’s projects implementing in different parts of the country, at least once in a month. S/he will write two stories based on each field visit for UNICEF Bangladesh visibility. Each story should be around 700- 1000 words in length, depending on the subject matter. At least 30 stories to be written and submitted based on 15 field visits by consultants during the period July – December 2013.

Qualifications and experience required for the assignment:

·  University degree in Communications, Social Science and/or Journalism or English.

·  3 to 5 years of experience in journalism or related communication field

·  Excellent English language writing and editing skills

·  Organized and responsible.

·  Familiarity with UNICEF programmes and development issues.

·  A basic knowledge of photography, graphics and video is considered as an added advantage.

·  Work experience with UNICEF (country office or National Committee) or other UN agency is an asset.

·  The consultant should maintain highest ethical practice, including respect to the privacy of the project participants, culture and child rights.
