RNSG 1293 Remediation for HESI

General Syllabus

I.  BASIC COURSE INFORMATION

A. Course Description: Topics address recently identified current events, skills, knowledge, and/or attitudes and behaviors pertinent to the technology or occupation and relevant to the professional’s development of the student. This course was designed to be repeated multiple times to improve student proficiency. This course is remediation for the students who did not achieve a score of 850 on the HESI NCLEX exam in subject areas on the previous semester. The learning objective is to increase the prediction of student NCLEX success.

B. Intended Audience: professional graduate nursing students who fail to attain the HESI standard score in two exam tries. Any interested graduate nursing student with permission of the Nursing Program Coordinator.

II. INTENDED STUDENT OUTCOMES:

A. Core Competencies – (Basic Intellectual Competencies)

C. Course Objectives for all sections – The student will:

1.  Identify learning gaps and provide remedial and supplementary materials to correct gaps and misunderstandings in preparation for success in nursing practice, standardized testing and licensing board exams.

2.  To maximize the number of students passing NCLEX the first time.

V. COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND POLICIES:

A. Required Textbooks, Materials, and Equipment –Silvestri: HESI/Saunders Online Review Course for the NCLEX-RN® Examination (16 weeks)

Evolve/Elsevier (2014) HESI Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination, Ed. 4

Silvestri, L. (2014) Saunders Comprehensive Review for NCLEX-RN Examination

This course is a 32 hour course requiring a minimum of 2 hours per week.

Other required reading will be posted on Blackboard. A computer compatible with Blackboard is required.

B. Assignments –

Students will be expected to log on to Blackboard to receive assignments, required readings, calendars and other course information.

·  Each student is expected to complete assigned number of NCLEX questions, participate in topic discussions, review HESI textbook, and complete practice tests.
