Directions: Sally’s house is located down a narrow lane, just off A6 . It is the first turning on the left after Scalesceugh Hall if you are travelling north towards Carlisle. Parking and turning space is extremely limited.
PBKA has permission to use the car park at Court Thorn Surgery , Low Hesket, CA4 OHP :
To minimise the number of cars driving to the house, we will meet in the Court Thorn Surgery car park at 1.30. where we will arrange to share cars and travel together to Sally’s house.
Go to thepatient’s car park at the rear of the surgery buildings i.e. do not park in the staff car park which is just inside the entrance.
To make sure that no-one is left behind, please contact Margaret beforehand to let her know that you intend to come to this meeting.

Directions:Drive towards the centre of Greystoke . Look for the village car park – on the left before the village hall – where the recycling area is also situated. Park there. Diagonally opposite the Boot and Shoe Pub there is a stone arch entrance to the Greystoke Castle Estates.
Walk through the arch and look for a gravel path on the right. The beehives are on the grass beside the gravel pathway. There is a green wooden bee shed under the trees on the left with a paved path around it. Please wait in this area. The family dogs may come to greet you. There are five of them. They are all curious but friendly!!

  • Please check the ‘Apiary Rules’ so that you come appropriately prepared for Branch Meetings at the Acorn Bank and other apiaries. In the interests of safety and for the protection of the bees, the Apiary Managers reserve the right to refuse access to the Apiary if the Apiary rules are not followed.

You need to wear , or borrow from the Apiary, a clean bee suit. Nitrile gloves will be available for you. The recommended footwear is wellington boots, or something similar.

  • Children are welcome to attend branch meetings at Acorn Bank Apiary.

PBKA has some children’s bee suits available.

Members are reminded that children must be closely supervised at all times.

Additional Events/ Activities

School Programme: This summer PBKA will be running Bee Projects at

i)Temple Sowerby Primary School on the afternoons of:

12/6 15/6 19/6 22/6

ii)Kirkoswald Primary School both morning and afternoons on:

8/6 9/6 23/6 29/6 30/6

Help is always needed with these projects, so please let Margaret know if you can come along. No previous teaching experience is necessary- just a willingness to share your enthusiasm about bees with young children!

The lesson plans have been sent to the schools and Margaret now has a list of the sessions when help is particularly needed.

You can volunteer for individual sessions – it is not always necessary to stay all day.
