Responsible to:The Message Trust Executive

Summary of Role:

  • Take responsibility for the development of Message ministries across Scotland, with initial focus on Glasgow
  • To help the church throughout Scotlandto reach the hardest to reach with the gospel of Jesus.
  • To lead and line manage the Message Scotland team
  • To raise individuals and churches that want to serve the vision (build a team), pounds to resource the mission (fundraising for all ministry activity) and much prayer to fuel the mission

Main duties and responsibilities

Eden and Eden Bus

  • To work closely with theEden Director to create a clear strategy for launching and recruiting for Eden teams across Scotland
  • To start at least one new full Eden team each year
  • To set up projects for the Eden Bus to serve across Glasgow andfind the people and funding to make this happen
  • Help local churches launch or grow local youth ministry with the Eden Bus
  • Use the Eden Bus to help new or possible Eden areas to stir the ground for future work

Creative Mission

  • To work with theMissions Directorto find avenues to use the creative arts to proclaim the gospel of Jesus
  • To use Message central teams as strong catalysts for mission in schools and prisons
  • To take on aScotland creative team, develop them with the support of Message HQ and release them in creative mission
  • Work toward seeing Glasgow as one of the next places for the Higher Tour city wide mission

Prisons work, reintegration and Enterprise

  • To work closely with the Message in Prisons team and the Reflex network to develop prisons work to bring the gospel clearly to those in prison
  • Develop our enterprise model so that those coming out of prison can be reintegrated and have the opportunity for employment, safe housing and a supportive community

Planning and Control

  • In conjunction with the Executive Team, facilitate an effective planning system for the growth of the ministry in Scotland
  • Increase the support base of Message, both in prayer supporters and financial supporter
  • Ensure that the team have an appropriate awareness of the ministry’s objectives, plans and programmes
  • Maintain and develop effective external networks with all relevant institutions and other organisations that are crucial to the work of the ministry
  • Ensure that all staff have good working relationships with external bodies as well as church members, service users, other customers and the general public

Financial Management and Financial Control

  • In consultation with the Executive Director for Finance, establish and maintain effective and efficient systems of accounting, financial and other management controls within the areas of the post-holder’s own remit, and to contribute to a team-based approach on other aspects of The Message Trust’s overall financial activity
  • Insure that appropriate financial resources are secured by drawing up an effective fundraising plan in conjunction with the fundraising team
  • Manage the Message Scotland budget

Other Expectations

  • To uphold and promote the ministry’s core ethos, values and policies. Ensure that the spirit of these policies is followed throughout the ministry
  • The attendance at prayer days in Message HQ on a monthly basis
  • Regular line management meetings with the Executive at Message HQ
  • All staff are expected to raise regular financial support for the ministry, aiming to raise one supporter a month and recruiting a minimum of three before they start

  • Good leadership, team-building, motivational and staff management skills
  • Able to balance financial and non-financial objectives, analyse information, make sound judgements, appraise performance and manage risk
  • Networking, influencing/promotional and negotiating skills. Able to develop and sustain public and voluntary sector partnerships
  • Strong self-motivation
  • A “hands-on” attitude, able to roll-up sleeves and pitch-in with practical task delivery
  • Successful management track record including change and innovation
