LIBRARY NEWS
Our Star Reader program is going strong with 191 students in grades one through five already earning their bright red t-shirts. Our students have already read close to 60 million words!
Kindergarten began their Crown Reader program in January. Letters were sent home, encouraging parents to read with their students and keep a log of books read. Students who read 50 books are recognized on the bulletin board in the hallway. Kindergarten Crown Readers rule!
Mark your calendar for our spring Scholastic Book Fair to be held on April 28th -30th. As in past years, the book fair will include a family event on Wednesday, April 29th in the evening from 3:00 to 6:30. On Thursday, April 30th, Dads and Donuts will coincide with the book fair.
Information on the book fair will be sent in your child’s Wednesday folder in April.
SPECIAL THANKS
We want to offer our heart-felt thanks to those in our community who support Theiss with their fund-raising opportunities and donations to our special events such as our Open House Birthday Party! They are Larry Drowns of Campus Kids, and McDonald’s on Spring Cypress. In addition, thank you to Spring Creek BBQ and Gibson Pyle’s grandmother who donated the prizes for our hugely successful Harvest Pack event.
FIELD DAY
Wednesday, April 1st is Field Day. Our amazing coaches have carefully put together a day filled with fun activities for the entire school. Special t-shirts have been created for this big event and there is still time to purchase the shirt from the front office. The cost is only $5.00. Each student needs to arrive on time in their designated field day t-shirt, long shorts, socks and tennis shoes. A water bottle labeled with your child’s name will be needed too. Parents are invited to join the fun!

DI TEAM SHINES!
Adventurous, Crazy, Bouncy, Smack-talking, Zippy, Zany Kit-Kats competed in the Destination Imagination regional tournament at Tomball HS on Saturday, Feb. 28. Although the team did not place in the top 5, they did an amazing and very amusing set of improv performances. Their improvisational skills were truly commendable especially when they were given a setting that was entirely unfamiliar to them. Mr. Leith (a.k.a. “Mom”) got many compliments from other team managers on the amazing teamwork the Kit-Kats demonstrated. All of the team members should be proud of themselves. The team included: Addison Casey, Bridget Kappel, Cambyll Francois, Kayla McKellen, Saif Sheikh, Zabrina Sidhu, and Zabiah Jones.
Shout Out to Mr. Leith for coaching this amazing team of talented students and our very supportive Theiss parents.
Kindergarten Round Up will be held at 9:00 am, April 28, 2015, in our school Cafetorium. Please pass the word to anyone living in our attendance area that Klein ISD will offer all-day Kindergarten classes for the 2015-2016 school year to any child who will be five (K) on or before September 1, 2015. Please contact the front office, 832-484-5884, with questions regarding enrollment requirements.
A certified birth certificate and complete immunization record, signed by the doctor, and proof of residence within the Theiss attendance zone are needed at the time of registration. If possible, please bring your child’s social security number with you to Kindergarten/Pre-Kindergarten Round Up.
KISD JOB FAIR Persons looking for employment in a positive, student focused environment are encouraged to attend the Klein ISD job fair on April 11th at Klein Collins High School, from 9:00am-1:00 pm. District personnel will attend to interview for certified and non-certified positions. Participants will register for 15-minute interviews for jobs matching their training and/or certification, work history, and interest. Participants should take copies of their resume. Letters of intent to hire will be sent after the job fair.
RANDOM ACTS
OF KINDNESS
Kindness is an innate quality of most human beings. When we see it directed toward others, it makes us feel good. When it is directed toward us, we feel great. Yet sometimes we feel kindly toward someone around us, but feel uncomfortable showing it. Why not let your kindness show? One of the best ways to do this is by practicing random acts of kindness. Kindness doesn't cost anything. In fact, it's much easier to be kind than to be mean. In addition, the kind acts we perform will often prompt others to act in the same way, even if we may not always see it.
The secret to practicing kindness is to not expect a reward. If we're not dependent on the other person's reaction, we can enjoy the simple act for itself. Another key to kindness is to keep the act anonymous. What if you arrived at work and found a batch of freshly baked cookies sitting on your desk? You would want to know who gave them to you, but even if you never found out, you would still enjoy the cookies.
Practicing random acts of kindness on those around you--even people you don't know--is easy. We all know someone who is having a difficult time at home. Maybe that person has a very ill family member or maybe he or she is just down and depressed. A fresh bouquet of flowers from your garden left on the person's desk may just brighten his or her day and lessen the load. Offering to fill in for someone who is anxious about a sick child at home is a more direct act of kindness, as is offering encouragement and support to a co-worker who is struggling with a difficult task or project.
It doesn't take much to start practicing random acts of kindness, just a good spirit and a desire to be helpful to another person. Don't be surprised if other people in the office start doing the same once you get the ball rolling. In addition to being very good for your mind and spirit, kindness is also contagious. Once you start, you just can't stop.
