Request Form to be entered for ‘resit’ GCE Units - Summer 2014

1.  This form is to be used if you wish to make a second or subsequent attempt at a GCE unit (referred to as a ‘resit’).

2.  If you are intending to enter for resits in more than one subject, please use a separate form for each subject.

3.  Entry fees for all resits must be paid by the student prior to the entry being submitted to the Examination Board. No resit entry will be sent unless the appropriate fee has been paid in advance.

4.  Hand in your entry fee with this form. The costs are shown on a separate information sheet. Please make cheques payable to ‘Beverley Grammar School’. If you are doing resits involving more than one Examination Board, you do not need to write a separate cheque for each Examination Board. Only one cheque is needed. If paying by cash, please bring the exact amount.

5.  In order to keep all relevant Staff informed of your intentions, you must ask the appropriate subject teacher at BGS and at BHS to sign this form. This form will not be accepted without Staff signatures.

6.  It is your responsibility to check that there have been no changes to subject content (e.g. set texts) since your last attempt at a Unit.

7.  Forms and fees must returned to the BGS Examinations Office by 4.00 p.m. on Friday 28th February 2014.

8.  Please ensure you have read the resit process information on the reverse side of this form.

Student’s declaration:

I wish to be entered for the above Unit(s). I have discussed the current Subject Specification with subject Staff and I am fully aware of any changes in subject content.

SUMMER 2014 EXAMINATIONS

Resits - information for students

·  There is information on this sheet for both Year 12 and Year 13 students. Please read it carefully.

·  Some aspects of the A level examination system can seem complicated. If there is anything you do not understand, don’t be afraid to ask Mrs McIlwaine (at BGS) or Mrs Roach (at BHS) to explain it to you.

·  Please remember that there are deadlines to be met and entry details that you will need to check carefully. Whilst we take great care to avoid errors, please bear in mind that we are handling entries from the whole of the Sixth Form, involving hundreds of individual Unit entries. Missing deadlines and failing to tell us about errors in your entries until the last minute causes a lot of unnecessary extra work and can prove expensive … possibly for you!

Your first attempt at a Unit

Your first attempt at an AS or A2 Unit is paid for by your school. Subject Staff will deal with entries for your first attempts at a Unit, and will inform us directly about these.

Second and subsequent entries for a Unit

You will be required to pay the entry fee for second and subsequent attempts at AS and A2 Units. These second, third or fourth attempts are referred to as ‘resits’.

Making resit entries

In order to enter for a resit you must complete a simple form and pay the appropriate fee. Copies of the form are available from the 6th Form Study Rooms at both BGS and BHS.

Fees

You will be asked to produce the appropriate fee before a resit entry is made. Each Awarding Body has its own scale of fees, and, in the case of many subjects, fees differ from Unit to Unit. Please refer to the lists of Unit costs displayed in the 6th Form area. Fees may be paid in cash or by cheque. Make cheques payable to ‘Beverley Grammar School’. You do not need to make out separate cheques for each Exam Board – just one cheque payable to the school to cover the total cost. If you intend to pay the fee in cash, it is essential that you bring the exact amount, as we do not have change.

Completing the re-sit form

If you are entering for resits in more than one subject, please use a separate form for each subject. Make sure that you give the correct Unit code(s); if you’re not sure, check with your subject teacher, or look at the subject specification on the appropriate Examination Board’s website (see below).

You must obtain a signature on the form from your teacher, or head of department, in order to keep departments informed about your intentions. Please note that it is your responsibility to check with staff that there have been no changes to the unit content (e.g. set texts) since your last exam in that unit.

Resit forms and fees may be brought to the Examinations Office at BGS up to 4.00 p.m. on Friday 28th February 2014.

Late entries / Penalty fees

Each Examination Board imposes penalty fees for late entries and there are deadlines for withdrawing entries. The penalty fees (payable in addition to the basic entry fee) for late entry can be as much as the original entry fee (ie. the cost is doubled). Very late entry fees (from 22nd April) can result in the total cost being three times the basic entry fee. Entries may be withdrawn up to 21st April, and the entry fee refunded. No refunds are made after 21st April.

Please note that if late entries or withdrawals have to be made as the result of an oversight or forgetfulness on your part, the costs will be passed on to you.

If you have any concerns about any of the details on this information sheet or about the entries / resit entries procedure in general, please call in at the Exams Office at either BGS or BHS.
