Job Description – Crewmember (B), Veggies For All, Farm Viability
Summary: ThisVFA Crewmember will support general and agricultural operations ofVeggies for All (VFA) and other related duties, as appropriate.
Structure:Temporary position. Seasonal, part-time, hourly. 10 hours/week, 15 weeks, 150 hours total. Exact schedule to be determined with supervisor and VFA Farm Manager.
Location: The VFA Crewmember will be based in MFT’s Unity office and will work at various VFA locations in and around Unity, Maine.
Reports to: Veggies For AllDirector, Farm Viability(Sara Trunzo)
Essential Duties:
●Support other VFA’s outreach, education, and partnership efforts, as assigned.
●Support all aspects of VFA’s agricultural operations of the food bank farm, including, but not limited to:
- Seedling production
- Cultivation, planting, and crop management
- Pest assessment and management
- Harvest, wash/pack, delivery
- Storage management
- Safe equipment operation and basic maintenance
- Safe use of facilities and infrastructure
- General site management
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
●Support the implementation of field stewardship plans that conserve soil, build soil fertility, and meet landowner and partner expectations. Practices will include, but are not limited to:
- Crop rotation
- Cover cropping
- Erosion control
- Nutrient management
- Assessment and soil testing
- General and aesthetic field care (bush hogging, weed-wacking, etc.)
●Support the maintenance of food safety and sanitation standards, under direction of supervisor.
●Support the management and supervision of volunteers.
●If pursuing academic credit for this position, VFA crewmember is expected to coordinate with the awarding academic institution, create and manage a learning plan (in accordance with institutional guidelines), and engage VFA staff in planning and implementation of said plan.
Desired Qualifications:
●Ability to perform each Essential Duty satisfactorily or willingness to be trained.
●Knowledge of,or engaged in the study of,one or more of the following areas: sustainable agriculture, organic agriculture, food systems, food security, or community organizing.
●Ability to communicate effectively.
●Ability to use technological and communications resources, such as: Office suite, email, professional social media platforms, etc.
●Ability to meet the physical demands associated with each Essential Duty in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor work environments.
●Ability to support the supervision of volunteers or willingness to be trained to do so.
●Ability to respond to direction, engage in teamwork, and complete appropriate tasks independently.
●Current driver’s license and access to reliable transportation are preferred.
