Where Golf Is Growing?
Carson Valley Golf Course Receives National And State Awards
Gardnerville Nevada, (April 2nd 2007)
With families looking to spend more quality time together, Carson Valley Golf Course has stepped up and met the demand with its award winning family golf course. It has built separate tees, ranging from 2000 to over 6000 yards, so players of all abilities can play golf together on a level playing field. Family tees speed up pace of play and make it possible for the beginner to challenge the seasoned player by playing from the appropriate tee. Since the inception of the family course all members of the family now play golf, it is no longer just fathers and sons. Where others have seen golf participation decrease, Carson Valley GC is now experiencing increased play, particularly in family golf.
At the 2007 Golf Industry Show the course was recognized for its outstanding contribution to the game of golf, excellent management and support of its community through player development programs. The course was named ‘Nevada Golf Course of the Year’ by the Nevada Golf Course Owners Association for its focus on family, junior and women’s golf programs. The National Golf Course Owners Association awarded the course a National Player Development Award for its commitment to growing the game of golf.
"With player development being a key issue throughout the industry, it is necessary to recognize those courses that are creating and implementing programs proven tointroduce and keep golfers in the game” Mike Hughes, Executive Director of the National Golf Course Owners Assoc. said when presenting this award. “Carson ValleyGolf Course is one ofthe standard bearers and weencourage others to mimic their efforts."
The Carson Valley community is embracing this growing concept in golf and has voted the course “The Valley’s Best Golf Course” for 2 years running and in 2006 it was voted “Tourism Business of the Year”. Each year the course teaches nearly 500 juniors, ladies and beginners to play golf though its Golf Program. Many juniors complete a 6 Week instruction program and several go on to successfully compete in regional golf events.
The golf course offers a special Family Rate of $10 per player for 9 holes with a cart, 7 days a week after 5pm, to encourage families to play together. “We are very proud of awards that we have received and we will continue with our commitment to grow the game of golf”, said Tom Brooks CGCS, Owner and General Manager. “By introducing ‘Bunny Slopes’ to the course it makes the game more fun for everyone, and isn’t that what golf is all about?”
Carson Valley GC, a longtime favorite for locals, value conscious visitors and beginners, has been in Gardnerville for over 40 years. It is adjacent to the winding Carson River and features giant Cottonwoods, estimated at well over 100 years old. The par 71 features a 111-slope rating and is 6,020 yards from the Blue tees. Tight fairways, water hazards and small greens call for careful strategy that rewards the smart player with a strong risk-reward factor for the longer hitter.
