SUPERVISED AGRICUTLURAL EXPERIENCE PROGRAM ACCOUNT/RECORD BOOK
What is SAE?
Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) is the actual hands on application of concepts and principles learned in agricultural education. You, as the student, are to be supervised by teachers in cooperation with parents, employers and other adults who will assist you in the development and achievement of your educational goals.
The minimum qualification for an SAE program includes completion of a general program, outlined in the white pages, and one other project as described in any of the other sections below.
General Information Section
The general information section can be found on the white pages. Everyone should complete this section of the record book. Here you will enter your goals, FFA and community activities, and related personal financial data. This information will be invaluable when completing resumes, scholarships or other applications.
Animal Entrepreneurship Section
The animal entrepreneurship section can be found on the blue pages. These pages are designed to record information about enterprises dealing with raising or producing animals. Whether you have dogs, bees, cattle, sheep or swine, etc., your enterprise information will be written on pages A-1 to A-14.
Plant Entrepreneurship Section
The plant entrepreneurship section can be found on the green pages, P-1 to P-11. The purpose of this section is to record information about enterprises in which you will raise or produce plants. These enterprises may range from watermelon to wheat, fruits to forages, and begonias to beans.
Job Placement Section
The job placement section of the record book is the yellow section, pages J-1 to J-4. This section of the record book is for those who are employed in an agribusiness by another individual. Examples may include farm placement, sales and service, horticulture, Ag mechanics, or any other related agribusiness employment.
Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Section
If you operate your own business, you will complete the gray section, pages E-1 to E-12. Examples of businesses may be a lawn mowing service, wool grading, sheep shearing, landscaping, cattle trimming/showing, Ag mechanics manufacturing, processing, etc.
Directed laboratory Experience
This section, pages D-1 and D-2, is designed for the semester student or those unable to carry out another type of program. The project should be of your choice, designed around your occupational goal, and involve some research time outside of school.
South Dakota Agricultural Education and SAE programs do not discriminate on the basis of creed, race, color, religion, sex or occupational choice.
