Here are the highlights from the committee’s four meetings
MEMBERSHIP OF THE COMMITTEE
We welcomed new staff from existing members.
Some libraries like Rotman began to use more of the SIRSI circulation functions.
UNIFORM LIST OF OVERDUE FINES EXCUSES THAT WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED
Following a pilot project at UTM(Many thanks to UTM’s Dorota Swieton for bringing this to committee’s attention), a sub committee of the central library was formed to explore a published list of ineligible reasons for disputing fines.
The committee established a list and the list was published on the central library’s website in August.
Many thanks to Monique Flaccavento of OISE and Renata Holder of Gerstein.
Individual libraries have published the list on their websites as well.
Here is the list of unacceptable excuses we will try not to accept(the text is from our website). Exceptions will occur.
“Please note that medical or other documentation is normally required to reduce or forgive fines. Without documentation, fines are normally not excused for the following reasons:
- Did not renew item on time
- Forgot the due date
- Did not receive a courtesy or overdue notice
- Was not able to renew online
- Was unaware of library policies
- Borrowed the item for someone else
- Returned late by someone else
- Did not report TCard stolen”
ONLINE FINE PAYMENTS
Work was undertaken on an online payment system for overdue fines. The project(lead by Glen Morales) is currently in final testing with the hope that it will be launched by the end of 2011.
NEW VERSION OF SIRSI INTRODUCED
Sirsi Symphony 3.4 was introduced and resultant upgrade occurred. Many thanks to Wenran Zhang in ITS.
ONLINE STATISTICS
UTL implemented the LibPAS software for managing assessment data in the spring of 2011. We began collecting the annual statistics using this service, including centralized uploading of collection use data from SIRSI reports, in June. Monthly collection use data will be uploaded on a go-forward basis. Lari Langford held a webinar to instruct staff.
