Role and responsibilities of the parent representatives- Primary and Secondary

The parent representatives are elected each year at the Annual General Meeting of the French International School (FIS) for one academic year.

Role

The role of the parent representatives is to promote effective communication between FIS parents, leadership and staff.

They obtain comments from the community on areas concerning life inside the school. They assist the leadership team and FIS staff to identify and address important subjects for the entire school.

Responsibilities

Main responsibilities of the parent representatives are as follows:

-Raise questions/comments from the community and collect answers from the appropriate bodies (councils and committees);

-Attend occasional meetings of their committee(s);

-Sit oncouncils and at least one FIS committee.

Involvement with the Councils

Parent representatives must be involved in different FIS councils, namely:

  • Primary School Council– French and International streams
  • Secondary School Council– French and International streams
  • Victor Segalen Council – All FIS

The councils are held once per term between 4.30pm and 8pm.

The councils deal with pedagogical and educational questions for the entire school (organisation of schedules, extra-curricular activities, hygiene, inclusion of handicapped children, child safety, school trips...). They work in conjunction with the FIS Board on areas with financial implications. They approve the school calendar, school project, interior rules and give their opinion on the school map suggested by AEFE.

Involvement with the Committees

Each parent representative must join at least one of the committees which are held during school hours:

  • Canteen Committee: Encourage healthy eating and food choices
  • 1 meeting per term + ad-hoc meetings depending on projects
  • Bus Committee: Organise bus services considering safety and other matters
  • 1 meeting per term + ad-hoc meetings depending on projects
  • Uniform Committee: Develop the FIS school uniform
  • 1 meeting per term + ad-hoc meetings depending on projects
  • Community Event Committee:organise events for the community
  • 1 meeting per term + ad-hoc meetings depending on events
  • Sustainable development Committee: Promote a Green FIS
  • 1 meeting per term
