Art Exhibition • Call for Entries

Exhibition Dates: July 10-August 7, 2010

Entries Deadline:

All entries must be received by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, June 16, 2010

The Bath House Cultural Center is seeking artwork for its upcoming art exhibition, Fictional, a collaborative project between the Bath House gallery and the 12th Annual Festival of Independent Theatres (FIT).

Concept:

In the same spirit as FIT, which strives to celebrate the talent of local independent theatre companies, the exhibition Fictional also has as its main goal to provide a showcase for the innovative, transcendent, and thriving art created by local and regional visual artists.

Theme:

The themes of the exhibition derive from basic aspects of the plot of each of the 8 one-act plays that are being presented during FIT in 2010. Simply, from the list on page 2, choose one of the blurbs that best describes a theme of your interest and create a work of art based on the blurb you selected. Our preference is to discourage artists from studying the content of the theater plays so as to avoid exhibiting artwork that merely illustrates the literary works. The list of short phrases that are being provided should be all the material that artists need in order to create personal, unique, and independent interpretations of the blurbs.

Eligibility:

Local, regional, and national artists are encouraged to submit entries. Artists from outside of Dallas should keep in mind that the shipping of artwork to and from the Bath House is their responsibility.

With the exception of video or performance art, all other media will be accepted. Artwork should not exceed 48” in any dimension. Artists are welcome to entering artwork that was created before the publication of this call that meets all the media and subject matter requirements for this show. The artwork, however, should not be older than two years. Artwork should be ready for installation at the time of delivery. No artwork shall be removed from the exhibition before the closing date. The List of Blurbs:

1.  RECONSTRUCTED ALICE IN WONDERLAND

2.  BIBLE HEROINES

3.  THE BOY, THE GIRL, THE MOONFISH

4.  MYSTERY GIRL SCOUT

5.  TRANSFORMING MUSES

6.  SNAKE URBAN LEGENDS

7.  A DAY SPENT IN PURGATORY

8.  PONTIACS, TRAINS, AND DISNEYLAND

Entry Fee:

There will be a non-refundable entry fee of $15 to participate in this exhibition. Artists may submit up to two entries, but only one piece per artist will be accepted. The call for entries will be open until the exhibition is completely full (as determined by the exhibition curator). Near the closing of the exhibition, a combination of public votes and judging by art professionals will be taking into account to give an artist a $300 award of recognition.

Submitting Entries:

Entries should be submitted as JPEG digital photographs saved on CDs. Images saved in a different format or files on detachable flash drives will not be accepted. Entries that are e-mailed will be disqualified. No prints or slides will be accepted.

Saving your images -

Please follow these guidelines to save your files on the CD:

* Label your CD with your full name, phone number and e-mail address

* Do not embed your images into any type of software (Word, Powerpoint, etc.). Files must stand alone

* Save only JPEG images with a size between 500 KB and 3 MB. Usually, the quality of the image is better if the file size is larger.

* Name your files by using your last name, first name, and the number 1 or 2 (in the case of multiple entries) separated by a space

* Artists are responsible for the clarity, scale, layout and overall quality of their image files.

Please fill out the ENTRY FORM and return it with your CD to the Bath House Cultural Center (see schedule). An entry fee of $15 will be paid to the Bath House Cultural Center Advisory Council. The fee will allow artists to submit up to two entries. Three-dimensional art can be represented with two images: one with a general view and another with a detail view.
