Town Council Regular Session Minutes

Thursday, January 12, 2017, 7:00 P.M.

  1. Call to Order:

The meeting was called to order by Mayor Gant @ 7:10 pm. In attendance: Council Members: Johnson, Pooley, Bennett-White, Layne-Bee, Police Chief Stephen Walker, Town Attorney Suellen Ferguson, Town Administrator Rod Barnes and Town Clerk Shantay Dabney

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mayor Gant.

  1. The approval of the agenda was presented for consideration. Council Member Layne-Bee moved, seconded by Council Member Johnsonto approve the January 12, 2017agenda.

Vote:Ayes: Johnson, Pooley,Layne-Bee and Bennett-White

Nay:None

Motion carried.

  1. Public Comment:

There were no public comments.

  1. Presentations:
  2. Swearing in of new Edmonston Police Officer, Zavian Adams
  3. Recognition of Corporal Patrick Thompson of the Edmonston Police Departmentfor saving a life.
  4. Recognition of the 2016 Christmas Yard Decorating Contest winners:

i.The Town Council minutes from the regular meeting on November 9, 2016were presented for consideration.Council Member Pooley moved, seconded by Council Member Bennett-White to approve the minutes of the Town Council regular meeting on November 9, 2016.

Vote:Ayes: Johnson, Pooley, Bennett-White, Layne-Bee and Gant.

Nays: None.

Motion carried.

  1. The consideration of award of bid to General Code to update the Town’s code book at a cost of $7, 281.00 was presented. Council Member Layne-Bee moved, seconded by Council Member Johnson to award the bid to General Code to update the Town’s code book at a cost of $7,281.00.

Vote:Ayes: Johnson, Pooley, Bennett-White, Layne-Bee and Gant.

Nays: None.

Motion carried.

  1. The consideration of a mutual aid agreement with the City of Hyattsville for the Safe Streets program was presented. Council MemberPooley moved to approve the mutual aid agreement with the City of Hyattsville for the Safe Streets program authorizing Chief Walker to sign off on the agreement, seconded by Council Member Johnson.

Vote: Ayes: Johnson, Pooley, Bennett-White, Layne-Bee and Gant

Nays: None

  1. Police Report: Chief Walker distributed the monthly Police Reports and the annual report for 2016.
  1. Council Dialogue
  2. Councilmember Bennett-White discussed the newsletter; adding calendar of events and meeting dates. She reported on a successful Chat &Chew for Ward 1. She suggested the possibility of a future one for Ward 2. Ms Bennett-White also mentioned the after school tutoring program.
  1. Councilmember Layne-Bee reported rubbish on 46th Avenue along Capital Industries property across from Metro Paving. Councilmember Layne-Bee also reported cable wires down at4803 Hamilton Street. She asked for an update on the vacant house at 4606 Hamilton Street.
  1. Councilmember Johnson discussed public works picking up trash along 46th Avenue.
  1. Mayor Gant reported about the annual Christmas Tree lighting on December 3, 2016 and the success of the Adopt-a-Child program. The program assisted 21 children in Edmonston. Six businesses and the church in Edmonston participated, along with 4 individuals.

  2. A motion to adjourn the meeting was made at 8:05 p.m. by Council Member Johnson, seconded by Council Member Bennett-White.
