Start Your Engines: PUMA® Motorsport Gives Classic Hollywood A Ride into the Future

Nonchalant And Sophisticated And Ready For The Races

Boston, MA – PUMA® Motorsport Spring Summer 2009 collection reflects on-track speed and off-track glamour with new styles for Ferrari, Red Bull’s Toro Rosso, and Ducati. The collections feature key performance elements needed on the race track, and infused with understated lifestyle elements. The fresh, modern look in each collection is inspired by classic racing and science fiction films that encompass speed, technology, the spirit of motorsport and the drive to win.

Ferrari

The Ferrari line takes styling inspiration from the 1966 movie “Grand Prix”. Highlighting the thrill of racing, the collection is inspired by the glamour and romance of motorsport lifestyle. Classic motorsport details are reworked and updated into the collection by adding lifestyle elements to the performance inspired collection. Motorsport collars are reinterpreted creating sexy and unique necklines. Asymmetric detailing, strong color blocking, automotive styling and quilted base characterize the emotions and technique involved with motorsport lifestyle. The graphics are inspired by famous designer Saul Bass’ graphic and exciting credit sequence.

Key Ferrari styles include the Ferrari Fashion Top, a feminine and sexy top that keeps you stylish while celebrating the motorsport lifestyle. A deep round front and back v-neck and flared sleeves infuse glamour and performance. Accessorize the outfit with the Ferrari Handbag for a modernized look. Its oblong silhouette with perforated leather handles and padded Ferrari wording on front emphasizes fresh designs with a unique PUMA attitude.

The Ferrari Lightweight Jacket is a fusion of lightweight, breathability, style and performance. With perforated side panels, Ferrari shield puller, Velcro cuff adjusters, and glossy high density printed Ferrari wording on back, the jacket is subtly fashionable and retains great attention to detail.

For men, a comfortable graphic tee is always welcome. The Ferrari Graphic Tee has a tonal all over print on front and back yoke. Graphic inspired by Saul Bass’ works, the tee is enzyme washed giving the print an aged and retro look.

This season’s statement style for the Ferrari line is the Furio V Mid SF. Reinventing the UNI look with ergonomics in mind, a razor-sharp, low profile outsole is designed for a lean and clean look. The rubberized, elastic strap finished with a TPU pull promise a snug fit and medial quarter support. Another key detail to the re-invention of UNI is the heel counter. It is a co-molded TPU counter with rubber heel pad that combines stability and strength with the direction and motion professional pilots demand.

Ducati

Taking inspiration from “Sin City,” a film noted for its intense larger than life cinematography and costume design, this season’s Ducati collection is about dynamic graphics, deconstruction and stylized use of color. Washed-out and plastic-y details can be seen throughout the collection. Reminiscent of the colors from the film, the color palette consists of black, steel gray, cardinal red, and white. Taking motorbike as connection for all parts of life, the products reflect the same comfort as street wear, but with basic protection.

The Street Cruiser Mid Ducati is for the person who uses his motorbike as a covenant for connecting all parts of his mashed-up lifestyle, roving from studio to café to club. Creating and re-creating, like PUMA, he mixes it up. He demands his clothing to reflect the same comfort and flexibility of a sneaker, while still meeting the functionality and basic protection of street-wear.

With bike-inspired deconstructed ergonomic cutting lines, the Ducati Leather Jacket becomes one with the biker. The Trellis frame zip pullers in contrast color and Ducati wording embossed on backside makes the jacket stylish and aggressive-looking. A mesh lining with coffee bean logo print gives added comfort and dynamism.

Red Bull’s Toro Rosso

This season Red Bull’s Toro Rosso line takes inspiration from the 1982 science fiction movie “Tron” and the 1984 science fiction film “Dune”. Both movies are about the adventures of a hero fighting for survival in a futuristic world. With man versus technology and technology versus man as the theme for this collection, speed, competition, futuristic design and high performance are the key elements. While ensuring the optimum in performance solutions, the products also reflect a more fashion-conscious aspect of the Toro Rosso spirit. Delivering speed and performance through natural ergonomics, the collection highlights organic performance, futuristic forms and intelligent materials.

Designed in a new hybrid style, the Urban Racer RBR takes motorsport and action to an innovative direction. The upper reflects the look and feel of motorsport sharpened with the spirit of the Red Bull universe and the creative concept of “Tron” while the TPU heel counter provides protection, stability and heel roll. Using the Motorsport Last (e.g. induction), the product is without any doubt linked to the motorsport category, giving the style the right drive and speed required while highlighting it strongly from all the other SNK trainers out there.

The RBR Statement Jacket is inspired by Red Bull Racing F1 team wear. Its shiny fabrication allows for a futuristic look. With gradient pearlescent grid print at back and a pearlescent Red Bull print placed on inner lining, the jacket encompasses character and reflects the spirit of motorsport. Ergonomic shaped sleeves are designed compatible to the driver’s needs and abilities to optimize performance.
