Incoming 6th Grade Students

Math: Summer Assignment (2016)

All students are required to continue their study of Math over the summer. Incoming 6th Graders will be doing this using a program called Moby Max. Students will be expected to work in this program and complete at least:

1 hour of Moby Max in July and

1 hour of Moby Max in August.

Please Note: Completing all 2 hours in either July or August does not fulfill this graded assignment asits purpose is to keep Math skills sharp over the summer.

While students have not used this particular program in the past, to make the transition as simple as possible, I have set up Moby accounts for each student using your child’s current Google Login & Password. Moby Max is usually accessible 24/7 from most devices that have Internet Access. It is my intention to sit with both classes for a short period before the school year comes to a close to go through some of the more basic features, but in the meantime, login information is attached to help you along.

Once in your Moby account, click on the Books Tab at the top of the main screen; you can choose your area of study. Please note that only 2 areas have been initialized for practice over the summer. In the 1st area “Test Prep” students will solve problems related to 5th grade level concepts previously learned as a general review of needed skills for 6th grade. The 2nd area is “Fact Fluency” which is just as it name appears; solving basic math facts as quickly & accurately as possible. If you child struggles with basic math facts, this should be practiced daily to build up fact fluency. Once the school year begins, your child will be exposed to and work in other areas within Moby Max.

You can monitor progress and time spent practicing skills by clicking on the Graph Tab to the right of the Books Tab on the main screen. Select the Time Icon and then review the Date & Total Columns to view the number of minutes spent practicing math skills.

If you have any questions, I do check my email periodically throughout the summer (). Have a great summer and I look forward to seeing everyone in September!
