SAI Plan

The entire GMS faculty believes that the ability to perform basic reading, math, and writing skills is essential for academic success. In an effort to increase the percentage of students meeting the State’s proficiency targets and increase the percentages for all subgroups on Annual Measurable Objectives, Gray will:

  1. Schedule all sixth, seventh and eighth grade students scoring at a

Level 1 in readinginto an intensive reading block using READ 180 and increase the relevant, interesting reading materials in each reading and language arts classroom. Schedule all sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students scoring a Level 2 in reading into a year long, one period, remedial/developmental reading class.

  1. Provide remediation within the regular math class to those students demonstrating a lack of proficiency. All math teachers will use CPS clickers. Additionally, all teachers will use PENDA toassist students with their math lessons, homework assistance, and both in school and after school remediation.
  2. Provide a Learning Center for students to get additional assistance with homework or tutoring in all academic subjects before school and during homeroom. Counselors will assist in the identification of students (Tier 2) and provide on-goingprogress monitoring. This service will be provided throughout the school year.
  3. Provide an afterschool recovery program (E20-20) for students who are not meeting success in their academics. In addition, there will be an afterschool Academic School held throughout the year, once a week, to provide additional remediation. Counselors will assist in the identification of students in need and monitor their progress.
  4. All language arts and writing teachers will use REV it up Vocabulary and WOW for Writers to support students in authentic writing.For diagnostic and progress monitoring, purchase Write Score.Kagan, CRISS and AVID strategies will be implemented school wide
  5. All science students will be involved in demonstrations and labs on a regularly scheduled basis. Science teachers will implement PROMISE lessons and PENDA. For diagnostic and progress monitoring of the eighth graders, purchase Write Score – Science.
  6. An online recovery program (E20-20) to replace summer school, will be required for all students failing an academic class for the year. The program will begin in June and operate through the end of July allowing students the opportunity to recover their grades and gain the necessary skills to be successful in their classes. Staff will monitor and generate reports daily on the students’ progress. Communication home as needed. Salaries for remediation will be funded using SAI dollars.
  7. Provide classroom libraries for all math classrooms and Accelerated Reader (AR) books for the Reading and Language Arts classroom libraries. Renaissance Learning will be used to monitor progress for grades six through eighth grade.

Materialsand supplies for remediation will be purchased.
