Last fall, CNA released its Aging Services 2016 Claim Report focused on the skilled nursing and assisted living industries. Chad Bjorklund will provide an introduction into understanding the current healthcare liability climate and how this impacts insurance costs. Patricia Harmon will provide insight into closed claims related to professional liabilityexposures arising in aging services organizations. Two primary areas of focus include resident falls and pressure ulcers, leading sources of injury with potentially life-altering results for residents. Success stories from aging services communities (skilled nursing and assisted living) are presented with recommendations based upon real-life responses to these critical risks. Jacqueline Allen will provide an overview of the legal climate in the aging services industry using examples of defense challenges and success stories in defending these claims. This discussion will include what clients can do to assist defense counsel; what makes cases problematic and what aging services customers can expect during the litigation process. Thirdly,the commercial risk control specialists will discuss auto, property, and cyberliability risks and how providers can manage them and respond accordingly.
