Message from Pam Viele, Director – Bruin Resource Center

Dear Bruin,
We hope your first weeks here at UCLA have been great. As you immerse yourself in your academic work, and embody the core values of being a True Bruin -- integrity, excellence, accountability, respect, and service – we hope that you are enjoying the many social activities here on campus.
At UCLA, we are here to support and encourage you to have fun and be safe at the same time.
We want to remind you that while some may have the perception that partying with alcohol is a big part of the college experience, at UCLA students tend to drink much less alcohol than students on college campuses across the nation. Studies show that 1/4 of our students don’t drink at all, and if they do, the average is around 2 drinks. What does this mean for you? You don’t have to drink, or drink a lot, to have a good time!
Police Party Patrols --
To help keep you safe and empower you to make good decisions, keep in mind that increased Police Party Patrols will continue during Week 1—especially on the nights of September 29th and 30th. These patrols made by the UC Police department will take place in the residential areas adjacent to campus. If anyone is found to be breaking the law, citations will be issued.
Know the law! --
- It is illegal to drink, or be in possession of alcohol if you are under the age of 21; you can lose your drivers’ license for a year if caught;
- No matter what age you are, it is illegal to give/serve alcohol to anyone who is under the age of 21;
- It is illegal and risky to drive while under the influence of alcohol.

- UCLA Community Service Officer walking escort service: (310)-794-9255
- UCLA Emergency Medical Service (EMS): (310)-825-1491
We welcome you to UCLA, and support you in making good choices as you start a successful new year!
