Congratulations and welcome to East Celebrity Elite!

Tryouts were a huge success and we are so excited for our 2017 / 2018 Season. Most importantly, we want all families to know that much time was spent creating each of our teams and discussing each athlete that attended tryouts. We do not make decisions on which divisions to create & where to place each child lightly. Throughout the weekend and each day since, the owners and staff have met daily to create the most successful teams possible and to ensure that each child is placed on a team where they can progress and excel. As I’m sure you can all imagine, this is not an easy task! We feel confident that our 2017-2018 teams will surpass your expectations!

DIVISIONS, LEVELS AND TEAMS: Divisions at ECE do not always remain the same & this year there have been some significant changes. We understand that change is sometimes difficult, but we hope you will also find it exciting! Several divisions that existed last year at ECE will not exist this season because they have been replaced with new divisions that better fit this season’s athletes. Our entire staff is extremely excited about this and very much looking forward to coaching their teams!ECE Hingham will have a total of 4 teams competing. Some teams are currently slightly over in number and it is possible that one additional team will be created.

We know that in some cases, kids and parents will be over-joyed at their team placements while some may not have made their first-choice team. We would like to remind everyone that our tryout process is a STARTING POINT. If you have not been placed on your 1stchoice team, we encourage all cheerleaders to spend the month of June working hard to continue trying to reach your goal. We also encourage all parents to have faith in the process and to support this.

Please try to avoid making speculations about teams (particularly our new divisions). It can be frustrating to us and to other parents/athletes to hear negative comments about the makeup of teams before anyone has even attended a practice. ALL teams have been set up for success and ALL teams meet and exceed the skills necessary to score well at competitions. We strongly encourage you all to attend your first practice (whether you are pleased or disappointed with your placement) and to meet your teammates and coaches rather than forming opinions based on hearsay and speculation. Surprisingly we have already heard these types of comments as divisions are being released on social media (before anyone has knowledge of who is on each team). This seems entirely pointless to all of us.

CONTACTING OWNERS: Following our Team Placement post, please do NOT contact the ECE coaches with issues or concerns. Any concerns need to be sent directly to Buffy or Jeanine at . We encourage everyone to practice the 24-hour rule when sending emails. We will return all emails but will wait to do so until after the holiday weekend.

COACHES: Some of our coaching combinations are new this season & an equal amount of time was spent on determining which coaches will work best with each group of athletes. We will again be using floor coaches & gym directors in the same fashion as last year. What this means for your kids is that more of our staff will be working regularly with each team in the gym. Both Tylerand Matt will work with all ECE teams this year! We feel this will be a huge benefit to all our teams and staff alike.

ATHLETE SKILL LEVEL: We were all very impressed with the skill level of our athletes. However, we want to reiterate that having strong lower level teams is also very important at ECE. It is our goal to continue building our younger program. So, if you have younger siblings and friends that are just beginning in this sport, please encourage them to tryout. We do not want kids to wait until they reach a higher skill level before making ECE their home!

CROSSOVERS: Many kids indicated on tryout forms that they were interested in cheering on 2 teams. In some cases, they have been placed on 2 teams so please check all team lists to see if this applies to you. If you want to cross team and have not been placed on 2 teams, please know that we will do our best to accommodate as the season progresses. We would prefer to begin practices and become familiar with each team before adding additional cross teamers.

TO ALL FAMILIES: We are so excited for the season ahead! We have truly created the strongest teams possible! Welcome to all our cheerleaders, both new and veteran athletes!

We can’t wait to get 2017-2018 started!!

TRYOUT PROCESS EXPLANATION COPIED FROM LAST YEAR: Our athletes can expect the actual tryout process to operate much as it has in years past. Teams will be formed based off of the skills that they display to our staff on the day of tryouts. As many of you know it is, however, very difficult to adequately evaluate stunting abilities in this short amount of time. It is crucial that our athletes have the ability to stunt (both as bases and flyers) equally as well as they tumble at each level. For this reason, we have decided to use the month of June to closely watch and evaluate each individual athlete’s stunting ability to determine a clearer picture of whether or not they have been placed at the optimal level. This means that at the end of June, there may be significant team movement.

Below is an example to help all parents better understand. Athlete A has been placed on a L3 team. At tryouts, they displayed strong L3 tumbling yet during the month of June, this athlete has had difficulty basing L3 stunts & making necessary stunting corrections. At the end of June, we may feel the athlete is better suited for a L2 team where they can contribute more to all aspects of the routine.

Likewise, Athlete B has been placed on a L3 team. At tryouts, they displayed strong L3 tumbling skills and some L4 skills. During the month of June, this athlete has excelled at basing all L3 stunts and we feel they can handle and contribute to a L4 team.

We encourage all parents to emphasize the importance of working hard to improve stunting skills throughout this first month of the season. We do expect more team movement than usual at the end of June. We want all families to realize that throwing a certain tumbling skill is only one aspect of this sport and we are striving to help allofour students become well-rounded and proficient in all areas of cheerleading. As always, there can be team movement at any point in the season based on each child’s skills and work ethic but we hope to have our teams more firmly set & solidified throughout the summer.

CHOREOGRAPHY DATES/PARENT MEETINGS: Choreography and clinic dates and fall practice times will be posted early next week for all teams! Additionally, mandatory parent meetings will be scheduled for the 2nd and 3rd week of practices.
