Meeting called to order at 6:36 P.M. Dr. Shiu arrived shortly thereafter. All members present.

Steve Jilk motioned to approve the consent agenda, seconded by Mike Haveman. Motion carried by voice vote.

5. Reports

  • Business Manager Monthly Budget Update

Shu Ling Sun presented the board with the end of April 2012 budget update.

  • Elementary School Counseling Program
  • Lynden Middle School Counseling Program
  • Lynden High School Counseling Program

School Counselors Erin Shaffer, Maria Hansen Quine, Liz Grant, Fred Ondeck, Christina Lynch, Laura Lupo and Tanya Robinson presented to the board an overview of their school counseling programs.

6. Board Workshop

  • WSSDA Legislative Priorities
  • WSSDA Legislative Positions

Superintendent Frey provided the board with two documents from the Washington State School Directors Association. These documents were provided to help the board determine the Lynden School District priorities. The board unanimously agreed that the following should be the main focus: Full Funding of Basic Education, Sustainable Revenue for Education Funding, Unfunded Mandates, Levy Equalization/Levy Lid.

  • Testing Calendar

The board was presented with a calendar that details the testing and assessments that are administered throughout the year.

7. Action Items

  • Resolution 02-12 WIAA Authority

Mike Haveman motioned to approve Resolution 02-12, seconded by Steve Jilk. Motion carried by voice vote.

8. Policy

  • Policy 4040 Public Access to District Records

Mike Haveman motioned to approve the revision to Policy 4040, seconded by Steve Jilk. Motion carried by voice vote.

  • Policy 6220 Bid Requirements

Some further work is needed to clarify some language on this policy. It will be brought back to the next regular business meeting.

9. Adjourn Meeting

The regular business portion of the meeting adjourned at 8:50 P.M.

9. Executive Session

  • Superintendent Evaluation

Executive session was convened at 9:00 P.M. for 1 hour to review the performance of the Superintendent. At 10:00 P.M. it was announced that an additional 30 minutes would be needed. Executive session adjourned at 10:30 P.M.
