CALLED MEETING

7:00 PM Called Meeting

Mayor Newsome called the meeting to order at 7:10 PM with the following member present: Mayor Newsome, Mayor Pro Tem Gross, Councilors Pompey, Jacobs and Alexander.

Mayor Newsome gave the opening Invocation and lead the pledge of allegiance.

Agenda Approval

Councilor Jacobs made a motion seconded by Councilor Pompey to approve the agenda. Passed 4-0.

Resolution for Bicentennial

Mayor Pro Tem Gross made a motion to approve the Bicentennial Resolution, seconded by Councilor Pompey. Passed 4-0.

Consideration of Tree Removal at Football Field:

After discussion of the two bids received for the removal of the two trees with the low quote from Treez R Us in the amount of $4,600.00, it was requested that the Interim City Manager contact eh School Superintend and request that the Schools participate in the cost sharing of this item. Councilor Alexander made a motion to table until the next regular meeting of Council, seconded by Councilor Pompey. Passed 4-0.

Municipal Competitive Trust – 2009 Funds Allocation:

Councilor Alexander made a motion to allocate 100% of the 2009 rebate of $264.024.00 to the MEAG Power Short Term Flexible Operating Account, seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Gross. Passed 4-0.

Clarification of Employee Christmas Bonus:

Discussion of Details of Employee Christmas Bonus as passed at December 9, Meeting. The Council agreed that the $50.00 bonus to all employees shall be net rather than gross and that the checks shall be distributed on December 12.

Other Discussion Items:

InterimCity Manager Sherrill made the Council aware that he had met with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the Jasper County Management Agency regarding an application for a warning siren system for the City. The application would be for a cost of $50,000 with 75% FEMA Grant and a 25% local match in the form of in-kind labor and equipment. It is expected that the system, which will be operated by the Jasper EMA will be operational by this year’s hurricane season.

InterimCity Manager Sherrill made the Council aware that the Warden of Scott State Prison can make available to the City a crew of 7 to 8 workers 4 days per week at 10 hours per day at a rate of $3,292 per month. After a discussion but Council it was requested that his be placed on the January Council agenda with an explanation of where the funds would come from to meet this cost.

Executive Session for Real Estate:

Motion by Councilor Jacobs to enter Executive Session for Real Estate Matters, seconded by Councilor Alexander. Passed 4-0.

Motion by Councilor Jacobs to exit Executive Session for Real Estate Matters, seconded by Councilor Alexander. Passed 4-0.
