Letter from the President

Sally Gannaway, BNA President

I hope all of you are enjoying the wonderful spring weather and wildflowers. I wanted to make you aware of a number of important upcoming events that impact our neighborhood. Early voting for Pflugerville City Council and School Board elections will begin April 20th and end May 3rd. Election day is Saturday, May 7th. We encourage you to vote.

Many important topics are being discussed at City Council and other city venues (e.g. town hall meetings, lunch with the Mayor, PFCONA meetings and City board/committee/work group meetings). BNA forwards information regarding these meetings via email as it becomes available to us. We encourage Bohls residents to join BNA’s email distribution list and to stay informed by participating in City meetings. If you can’t attend Council Meetings, you can read the minutes or view topical video clips on the City website or view the entire Council Meeting on cable TV, channel 10. Videotapes of Council Meetings are also available at the Pflugerville Library.

Pflugerville is growing and changing. Completion of the SH130 roadway will open areas East of our neighborhoods to development, both residential and commercial. Recent plans discussed at City Council show the corridor facing East Pecan between SH130 and Bohls Crossing as possible commercial development zones. As with the Wal-Mart project that passed City Council second reading at the April 12th meeting, the City would like impacted neighborhoods to participate with developers and City staff in writing development agreements. This facilitated process allows neighborhoods to voice concerns and provide input on how land parcels will look when they are developed. I participated in the Wal-Mart meetings and was amazed at the changes that Wal-Mart made based on neighborhood input. We encourage Bohls households to join the neighborhood association so that our neighborhood will have a strong voice at the future development agreement meetings.

I hope to see you at our upcoming meeting. Remember, this is your neighborhood association, so please share your ideas and be involved.

Letter From The Board Of Directors

We, the Bohls Neighborhood Association Board, are concerned with the low meeting attendance and involvement of the residents in the association and neighborhood. For example, we had a representative from Wal-Mart speak at the January quarterly meeting about the proposed Wal-Mart at Pfennig and F.M. 685 and there were only 8 people in attendance, 3 of whom were BNA officers. We have only 18 BNA member households out of 537 homes in Bohls Place and Bohls Crossing.

We need to work together to make our neighborhood a better place to live. You do not have to join a committee to help out. If you can spare a couple of hours a month you would be making a

big contribution to our neighborhood. Volunteering is a great way to meet your neighbors!

  • There is yard work that needs to be done around the Bohls entrance signs. We have money for supplies but need manpower.
  • Help is needed on the quarterly newsletter contacting business to sell ads, making copies and delivering them house-to-house. We have about five or six people who regularly volunteer to deliver the newsletter but we could always use more.
  • We are also in need of someone to fill the Treasurer position on the BNA Board of Directors.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities or would like to become more active in the association please contact us at

With neighbor involvement, we can continue to have successes like the association has had in the short time since it was formed:

  • Our Crime Watch program has had 13 streets trained by the Pflugerville Police Department. Neighborhood Watch signs, which have been proven to deter criminals, have been installed throughout our neighborhood.
  • We received rave reviews from both residents and visiting officials for our National Night Out party held last August. We estimated that we had over 250 people enjoyed the pool, free food, and music.
  • We have hosted 4 successful food drives. Each time we take the food to the donation location they are very thankful and in great need of the food.
  • We have successfully worked with city departments in maintaining the landscaping along Old Hutto Road and East Pecan.
  • Bohls residents are better informed of Pflugerville events, meetings and issues because of our association’s neighborhood communications (e.g. emails, newsletters and signs at mailboxes).

Having a neighborhood association says we are working together to make our neighborhood a better place to live. We want to make the Bohls Neighborhood Association a success but need everyone’s support and input.

We try to plan a speaker or cover an important topic at each quarterly BNA meeting. We would like to know what meeting topics would be of interest or other ways we can improve attendance and participation. We are moving the BNA quarterly meeting to the 3rd Tuesday effective July 20, 2005 so that we will not conflict with the City Council meetings.

Please send your answers to the following questions along with any suggestions to .

  1. What topics or speakers would be of interest to you at the quarterly meetings?
  2. Is the meeting date and time convenient for you (3rd Tuesday @ 7:00 p.m. of January, April, July and October)? If not, what date would be better?
  3. Would you be open to receiving the quarterly newsletter via e-mail?

Sally Gannaway – President

Willie Watts – Vice President

Shirl Enoch - Secretary

It’s time for spring cleaning! The garage sale will be Saturday, May 14 from 8am until Noon (no rain date). BNA will be putting out signs and placing an ad in the Pflugerville Pflag to advertise the garage sale. All you have to do is display your items in your garage or driveway that morning. If you have any questions contact us at .

BOHLS CROSSING

ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE

We are two neighborhood volunteers who have agreed to run the Bohls Crossing Architectural Committee as outlined in the Deed Restrictions that were written and filed with Travis County by the developer of our neighborhood. If you do not have a copy of the Deed Restrictions a copy is available for your information at

It is very important that everyone understand that enforcing the Deed Restrictions can help retain the value of our homes and maintain our nice neighborhood. We do not want Bohls Crossing to become a rundown neighborhood.

The Architectural Committee is giving everyone until May 31, 2005 to remedy any existing violations before taking action. Some of the current noticeable violations in our neighborhood are:

  • recreational vehicles (boats, camping trailers, etc.) and trailers in driveways over 48 hrs and
  • lawn mowers and debris in front yards.

Another issue that will be arising soon is repainting of our homes. You will note in the Deed Restrictions that color changes need to be approved by the Architectural Committee. This is not to limit people from changing the color of their home but to make sure we do not end up with colors that do not fit in with our neighborhood’s appearance or de-value our homes. Also, any improvements to the exterior of your property require approval of the Architectural Committee.

Below are some of the actions that can be taken by the architectural committee to remedy violations:

  1. Letter (regular mail) informing resident of violation.
  2. Letter (certified return receipt) informing resident of violation.
  3. Letter from an attorney informing resident of violation.
  4. Legal action taken in court.

We can always use extra eyes to help us identify violations that require action. If you are driving through the neighborhood and see violations send an email to and the neighborhood association will forward it to the Bohls Crossing Architectural Committee members. You may also contact the architectural committee by mail at the following:

Pflugerville, TX 78691

Let’s all work together and make this process work.

NOTE: THE BOHLS CROSSING ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE AND THE BOHLS PLACE ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE ARE SEPARATE ENTITIES FROM THE BOHLS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION.

______

Once again you came through on our food drive that was held in February. Even with the inclement weather we collected quite a bit of food. This time we donated the food to the Storage House food pantry. They were very grateful.

We Don’t Know You But We Thank You

Have you noticed how nice the entrance around the Bohls Place sign at East Pecan and Sunflower looks? One or more of our neighbors is mowing and trimming the area, but we don’t know whom! Whoever it is, we THANK YOU and appreciate your hard work and would like to know who you are. Pretty entrances benefit everyone and make our neighborhood inviting.

We would like to identify other willing neighbors to help maintain the area around each neighborhood sign in Bohls Place and Bohls Crossing. The Pflugerville Parks and Recreation Department has mulch that they will give the neighborhood association at no cost for the areas around our signs – they will even deliver the mulch!

Please contact us if you are willing to help your neighbors improve and maintain the entrances to our neighborhood. The neighborhood association will be happy to help coordinate workdays and provide funding for pre-approved supplies. The Bohls Neighborhood Association can be reached by email at . You can also call me, Sally Gannaway, at 251-8516.

30th ANNUAL PFLUGERVILLE

DEUTSCHEN PFEST: MAY 20-22, 2005

Deutschen Pfest will be at Pfluger Park and several locations throughout Pflugerville. The volunteer committee plans to make the 30th Deutschen Pfest a celebration to remember by incorporating more entertainment, booths, and pfun for the entire pfamily!

Deutschen Pfest is Pflugerville’s weekend to showcase the best in parades, food, music, arts & craft booths, and family activities. Included in the three-day-long Pfest: 5K Pfun Run and Walk for adults and children; live entertainment with a special focus on German music in the gazebo; and a parade starting with a unique children’s parade. Pf4 IS ASKING HELP FROM LOCAL NEIGHBORHOODS IN SPONSORING PIERS

The following information about Pf4 by Michelle Pundt, board member of Pf4, explains the Lake Pflugerville fishing pier project. While BNA as an organization is not sponsoring this effort, we encourage anyone interested to help. Donations made to Pf4 may be identified “Bohls Pier Donation.” The total amount raised by our neighborhood will be reported in the future. Visit

for additional information about the lake and other City projects.

Call for our Homeowners to Sponsor a Pier!

Michelle D. Pundt

The Bohls homeowners have the exciting opportunity to sponsor a fishing pier at Lake Pflugerville. The City’s 180-acre reservoir is scheduled for completion in July 2005. Each pier is estimated to cost $9,900 including appropriate sign recognition of each sponsor.

Currently, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is funding a 3+ mile crushed granite trail around the lake. They will also stock the lake with black bass and other young game fish. Future plans include a swimming area with a gravel beach, picnic areas with b-b-q, boat launch, pavilion and wetland enhancement. Infrastructure and utilities are also planned such as electricity, lighting, restrooms, roads, parking, directional signage, landscaping and irrigation.

I hope you will join me in this endeavor and invest in our community for current and future generations. If each of the 537 households in Bohls Place/Crossing donated $20 each your neighborhood could sponsor an entire pier! The fundraising committee will, however, accept donations of any size. Your generous contribution should be made out to Pfriends Pfor Pflugerville’s Pfuture, which is a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization. You can mail your donation identifying “Bohls Pier Donation” in the memorandum line to P.O. Box 679, Pflugerville, TX 78691-0679. If you wish to drop off your donation, please do so to the Pflugerville Justice Center at 1611 E. Pfennig Lane in Pflugerville, Attn: Pf4, Michelle D. Pundt. Please make contributions by July 1, as the piers must be built prior to the filling of Lake Pflugerville.

Since Pf4 is an all volunteer organization, you can be assured that 100% of your donation will cover direct project costs. Specifically, the funds will buy materials for the piers such as lumber, bolts, etc. Volunteer labor is going to be used for construction. If you wish to volunteer or have other questions regarding Pf4, please contact me at 670-5527. All messages will be returned.

I feel very strongly about this, because it allows families to make a positive contribution to our community. Maybe I’m partial because I can very fondly remember sitting and talking with my own grandparents and parents while fishing many years ago.

Who is Pf4?

Pfriends for Pflugerville’s Pfuture (Pf4) is a community supported, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was formed in November 2003 by civic and community leaders to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Pflugerville and pursue funding to meet those needs. Pf4 identifies projects that will better the community. In its short history Pf4 has:

  • Procured holiday toys for the Blue Santa program with the assistance of the Toy Bank, Mattel, and TY Toys.
  • Collaborated on distributing toys with the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots program.
  • Received a Kodak/Conservation Fund grant with the support of a neighborhood and state representative. The grant was collectively added to a PCDC grant and two city funds to complete sidewalks in two neighborhoods and add recreational equipment.
  • Collaborated with Keep Pflugerville Beautiful, the Texas Downtown Association – Anice Reed Fund, the Downtown merchants and private donors to procure colorful and decorative flowerpots for the downtown area!
