Digital communications and content intern –Vauxhall, London
Interested in a career in digital comms or want to know more about what it’s like to work for a national charity? The Internal Communications Team are redesigning the intranet and need an enthusiastic intern to help us update and create content for the new website. You will be an invaluable source of support to the project team and will also assist the wider comms team with other activities as needed.

We’re redesigning our intranet to make it easier for staff to do their jobs. This role is a fantastic opportunity to use your editing and writing skills to help create and update important content for the new site. You’ll also need to use your relationship building skills to get things done on time and to a high standard. You’ll be joining the project at a really exciting stage and will play a key part in developing a range of information in different ways for our staff to use in their jobs. You’ll gain experience in digital writing, internal communications and intranet design, as well as insight into planning and project management within a large organisation.
It’s an ideal role for anyone considering a career in digital communications, writing/editing or internal communications. By helping us to create great content for our intranet you’ll help ensure Macmillan staff can work collaboratively and find the information they need to better support people affected by cancer.
Key activities
- Helping the team to plan, coordinate and manage a network of content providers.
- Working with content editors and other experts from across the organisation to produce high quality content (which may include guidance documents, process maps, videos, policies, etc.)
- Editing and proofing content to make sure it is clear and easy to understand and use.
- Helping people to produce well laid out content in line with our brand guidelines.
- Coordinating content from different people in line with the project deadlines.
- Working with our creative brand guidelines to make sure all content is consistent and well written.
- Working with third parties to upload content to the new content management system.
- Providing the project team with administrative support including managing our daily news inbox.
- Attending planning meetings and brainstorms.
Location and time commitment
- This role is based at our offices in Vauxhall, London, although there may be opportunities to volunteer from your home on occasion.
- The internship is between late-February and mid-May 2016, although there is some flexibility on dates depending on your availability.
- We anticipate that this role will involve a commitment of threeto four days a week, Monday to Friday, but specific times and days are flexible to fit around your commitments.
This internship would suit someone with:
- fantastic writing skills and the ability to translate information into simple, clear written English
- an excellent eye for detail and creative, engaging design
- experience of proofing and editing, with excellent knowledge of grammar and plain English
- ability to work independently but with guidance and support
- great relationship building skills
- an interest in Macmillan’s work as well as digital communications and websites
- ability to use Microsoft Office and PowerPoint proficiently.
