THIS MORNING – August 20, 2017

We are so glad you’ve chosen to join us today for services here at Calvin Church, and trust you have a wonderful experience! As we are in the summer months, once again, we find there are so many things to do that would take our attention away from the Lord. Yet, we want to encourage you today to do all you can to continue to keep God first and foremost in your life, as well as the loved ones God has blessed you with.

Pastor Dave Spoelma will continue with our series on Jonah called “How to Avoid the God We Set Out to Serve.” His sermon is titled “REJOICE in God’s Gifts as Though they are Rights” based on Jonah 4:5-9.

The offering today is for the Christian Reformed Conference Grounds. Believing that God's people need facilities which promote their spiritual welfare as well as their physical health and happiness, their goal is to establish, maintain, and operate a family ministry center for spiritual renewal, recreation for all ages, food service, camping, and lodging in an atmosphere of Christian fellowship.

YOUTH PARENT MEETING – Parents of youth in middle and high school are invited to a meeting TODAY right after the service in the sanctuary to brainstorm and discuss ideas for the upcoming youth group program year.

THANK YOU – Dear Family, Cheryl and I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you are doing for us. The interviewing process was one for the books and the denomination would do well to replicate denomination-wide the process the Search Team and all of you accomplished in the search for a pastor. The potlucks have been spectacular! Last week so much love was poured out in the Installation Service and subsequent picnic outside that my friends and family were so seriously impressed that they all remarked excitedly "This church loves you, Pastor Dave and Cheryl!" And we know that. We are also so very thankful for the help and hard work helping us to move from Imlay City to here. The amount planning, expenses, and help of those who traveled to Imlay City, then helped unload back here in Holland, was simply overwhelming. We will not forget it. And we cannot forget to express our huge gratitude for how beautiful you are making the parsonage for us to live in and in which to be comfortable and safe. We promise to have an ice cream social when we are all set up in the parsonage, so that all of you have the opportunity to see the good work the congregation did to show love to my wife and me. We set up the main floor as well to hold small group and discipleship gatherings to build into each other's life along the way. We are going to lead by example and ask you open up your homes along the way as well. It will be a few more weeks until the cabinets arrive and are installed along with the plumbing fixtures. The carpet, linoleum, and paint is done already. We also appreciate our Zeeland apartment and are grateful for all you are doing for us and for God. We love you very much. We pray you already see that and we know you will certainly experience that in time. Pastor Dave, Cheryl, and Hoss.
