Travelling around a large rural area like East Fife is sometimes not easy. In many cases it`s simply a case of not knowing what is available or how to get the right information.
Hopefully this booklet can help but it`s impossible to tell you everything. Brief details are provided about each service or scheme and there are phone numbers and web addresses if you want more information.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Busses and trains criss-cross East Fife every day. If you want to plan a journey then call Traveline on 0870 608 2 608 (daily, 7am – 10pm or visit

COMMUNITY & GROUP TRANSPORT
Sometimes it might not be possible for you to use ordinary public transport and so there are a number of companies and services available to help you get around:
Ring & Ride
If you find it difficult or impossible to use ordinary buses - due to permanent or temporary, physical or sensory impairment -you can use Ring & Ride. You could have arthritis, a broken leg or even a difficult pregnancy. Anyone can use the service and you can be picked up from your door. You can travel anywhere within Kirkcaldy or Levenmouth, daily, throughout the day. Fares are charged but the service is free if you hold a Fife Council Concessionary/Mobility Card. Dial-a-Ride
If you find it difficult or impossible to use ordinary buses - due to permanent or temporary, physical or sensory impairment -you can use Dial-a-Ride. Dial-a-Ride offers travel between your home and various

If you have mobility difficulties and find it difficult to use other forms of transport, MoBus can help you travel around whether you're an individual or a group. Available throughout Fife, you can travel almost anywhere whether to the doctor, the shops, the theatre or for a day out. All vehicles are wheelchair accessible. Costs are charged per mile.

WRVS ENNTrans (East Neuk Neighbourhood Transport)
WRVS ENNTrans operates a volunteer car driving service open to people in the East Neuk who can't access public transport for whatever reason. You can use the service for appointments or visits and costs are charged on a per mile basis. Two wheelchair accessible minibuses are also available to local community groups. Tel: 01333 312370
Trans-Fife Community Minibus Transport
Trans-Fife provides accessible community transport to those with mobility problems and aims to reduce transport barriers to work, education and training. The service is available to groups and individuals who would otherwise have little or no access to suitable transport facilities. Wheelchair accessible vehicles are available. Fife Council Minibus Management Service
The Minibus Management Centre will assist groups within the community to hire safe, reliable and affordable transport by the provision of minibuses with drivers or on a self-drive basis. Groups may qualify for a subsidy towards transport costs. Tel: 01592 769695
TRAVEL TO MEDICAL SERVICES
You can use any of the above services to get to hospital, the doctor or health centre. However, if they are not suitable, you may be able to use one of the following services:
WRVS Good Neighbours Service
A volunteer car service for health appointments, social outings and groups. If you are having difficulty accessing services because of illness, age or disability, have young children with extra support needs or because you are caring for somebody else then the Good Neighbours Service may be able to assist you. British Red Cross Volunteer Transport
Transport by volunteers in their own cars, to allow essential journeys in Fife and beyond, if you have difficulty accessing other meansof transport. Mostly for hospital appointments Costs are charged per mite,Tel: 01592 612874.
Crail Hospital Car Service (CHOCS)
A volunteer car service to enable Crail residents to reach dentists, opticians, surgeries and hospital appointment. Fixed fares to various locations (parking and toll charges may apply)Tel: 01333 450096

Travel Costs for NHS Treatment
You may be entitled to hospital travel costs for NHS treatment depending on your age. Income or pension. You will first need to check your entitlement by getting leaflet HC11 - `Help With Health Costs`.

The Scottish Ambulance Service non-Emergency Service
This service provides patient transport to hospital for non-emergency patients who have a medical need tor such transport. A non-emergency patient is one who, whilst requiring ambulance transport and treatment does nod require an emergency or urgent response. A clinical need for treatment does not imply a medical need for Ambulance Service Transport. An Ambulance Transport Request must be based solely on medical need and consideration and identification should be given as to whether ambulance transport is required because of the patient’s injury, illness, immobility or disability, Further details available from your doctor.
FARES, TRAVEL CARDS AND FUNDING
Buses & Trains
Most public transport operators provide a variety of discounted tickets and fares that make travelling around more economical. In East Fife, Moffat & Williamson offer 10 - journey tickets; stagecoach otters Dayriders (day ticket) and Megariders (weekly ticket). Stagecoach also offer Group Tickets and Uniriders for students, Train operators tend to offer weekly and monthly season tickets and, for long distance travel, in ere are a variety of advance purchase tickets, which offer savings on the standard fare. Fife Mobility Card
Fife Mobility Card offers entitled persons free or reduced rate travel on buses and trains throughout Fife and on various cross-boundary journeys. To quality for a card, a person must either be unable to use public transport or require assistance in using public transport.

Concessionary Travel Pass
The Concessionary Travel Pass otters the holder free or reduced rate travel on buses and trains throughout Fife and on various cross-boundary journeys. To qualify, applicants must be a permanent resident of Fife and either be:
- 60 years of age or over
- receiving the Mobility Component or Disability Living Allowance
- profoundly deaf
- have a communication disorder
- receiving War Pensions Allowance
- had driving licence refused or withdrawn on medical grounds

The Scottish Blind Persons Travel Card
The Scottish Blind Persons Travel Card is a national concessionary travel card offering free travel throughout Scotland on buses, trains, ferries and the Glasgow Subway. A companion may also navel with the cardholder within the Fife Boundary and to Glasgow. Edinburgh and Cumbernauld at half Fare.

Young Persons Travel Card
Fife Council's Young Persons Travel Card is for 16, 17 and I8 your olds in full lime education, i.e. school, college or university, who are not entitled to claim travelling expenses. The card entitles allows half fare travel on busses and trains, Monday to Friday, during term time.

COLLEGE, WORK OR TRAINING
Travelling to work or university needn't be difficult. Check out the various options in the previous sections: 'Public Transport', 'Community & Group Transport' and 'Fares, Travel Cards & Funding. Some additional services that are available include:
Elmwood College Transport Services
Elmwood College provides two dedicated bus services to and from the college from the East Neuk and Levenmouth areas. Each operates 5 days a week during term time for college students. All under 18 students attending Elmwood can apply for a free bus pass.

SHOPPING
Some shopping centres and supermarkets in Fife offer motorised scooters (S) and wheelchairs (W) for customers. Most supermarkets will also provide assistants (A) for customers who require them.
Shopmobility
Shopmobility is a scheme to lend free manual and powered wheelchairs and scooters. A companion service for people who might require assistance while shopping is also available. A limited number of manual wheelchairs are available for long-term hire. Shopmobility is open to anyone who feels that getting around the Kirkcaldy or Glenrothes shopping centres is difficult.
