A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of George Street Boone.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to George Street Boone, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, George Street Boone was born on August 27, 1918, a native of Todd County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on November 22, 2004; and

WHEREAS, George Street Boone was the loving son of the late Benjamin Edwards Boone Jr. and Manie Street Boone; he was the devoted husband of the late Joy Fields Bale, and he also was preceded in passing by a brother, Benjamin Edwards Boone; he was also the brother of four sisters and a brother, Martha Shaver of Louisville; Lillian Ridley of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; Mary Louise VonBrock of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Manie Balch of Golden, Colorado; and John Lewis Boone of Nashville, Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, George Street Boone served his country with pride and distinction in the United States Navy during World War II, where he served as a line officer; and

WHEREAS, George Street Boone was educated in the Elkton schools; he graduated from Vanderbilt University, where he was the recipient of the prestigious Founders Medal; he graduated from Vanderbilt University Law School, and he earned a master's degree from Columbia University; and

WHEREAS, George Street Boone represented his constituents from the sixteenth Legislative District of Todd and Logan counties during the 1972 General Assembly, where he was also a member of the Legislative Research Commission; he was a loyal member of the Democratic Party, and during his tenure in the House of Representatives, he was an influential member of a group of intelligent and liberal freshmen legislators known as "The Young Turks," after which time, he became counsel for the new Legislative Board of Ethics, which was created during the 1972 General Assembly; and he served as vice chairman of the Kentucky Bicentennial Committee in 1975; and

WHEREAS, George Street Boone was an esteemed member of the Todd County community, where he was a life-long member of the Elkton Christian Church, and where his memorial service was held on November 27, 2004; he was a member of the Kentucky Bar Association and the American Bar Association; he was active in the Elkton Rotary Club and the Hopkinsville Atheneum Club, and he also served on the board of directors of Elkton Bank and Trust; and

WHEREAS, George Street Boone was a direct descendant of Daniel Boone's brother, Samuel Boone; we remember him for his many achievements and the friends he made and sustained through the years, and we fondly remember him as epitomizing those qualities of a true "Kentucky gentleman"; and his passion, dedication, intelligence, and social consciousness will never be forgotten, and his influence will continue; and

WHEREAS, the passing of George Street Boone has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of George Street Boone, and extends to his family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of George Street Boone.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Martha Shaver, 3818 Washington Square, Unit 4, Louisville, Kentucky 40207.
