Hello 3nd Grade Families!

I hope you are savoring your last bit of summer break with your families. I know that I am but I am also very excited to see my fabulous crew of incoming 3rd graders! I have been planning some amazing expedition activities for us and getting our “home-away-from-home” (a.k.a. our classroom) ready for our busy learning bodies. Our first day of school will begin on Wednesday, August 16. You will be welcomed at 8:15am in Room 7, and we will begin our first day classroom circle when the bell rings at 8:30am.

Our fall/winter expedition is “Space! The Final Frontier” . We will transform into astronomers as we investigate our solar system; the planets, stars, and our amazing sun.

Our winter/spring expedition is “Trails, Tears and Triumphs”. This expedition explores our Nevada County indigenous tribes of Nisenan and Maidu Indians. We will immerse ourselves in the study of the life and folklore of these tribes. It’s going to be a profound and engaging learning year for all!

Important Notes:

*It’s school shopping time! I have included a “Crew Wish List of Supplies”. These are donations that truly help our kids and classroom run smoothly! All supplies that are donated will be shared by our entire crew so please do not label the supplies with your child’s name. We Are Crew and we share like a crew!

**Remember that your child’s after school pick up place will be in the back parking lot, unless he/she has a younger sibling being picked up out front. If your child is attending Afterschool Care, they will meet the Afterschool staff in front of the school. In an effort to keep hallway traffic flowing smoothly after school, please establish a meeting spot in advance for your child. If you are picking up via car, I will walk your child out to the back lot for pick up. If you have parked and are walking to meet your child, please pick up your child at the picnic tables by the playground. This gives me a chance to “eyeball you”, make sure that your child connects with you and is safe. Yep, I’m a mama bear when it comes to your kiddo!

****You should have received a fieldwork donation mailing. These funds cover most fieldwork experiences and adventure fees (this year our adventure is rock climbing). Our expedition plans for this year depend on full payment from each family. Note: If your Fieldwork Dues Preference form is not returned by August 31st, teachers must collect for each fieldwork event.

****I LOVE DRIVERS! (Hint…hint…) You MUST turn in a new copy of the declarations page of your vehicle insurance (not a copy of your insurance card) and fill out a new District Sanctioned Trips form. I’ve turned mine in already! You must have at least $100,000/$300,000 in liability to qualify.

****A sign up for “Share and Care” will be posted on our door soon. Please sign up for this 20-minute meeting if you would like to address any pertinent info about your family or child that will help us meet your child’s needs at school.

****We understand and appreciate that parents are eager to volunteer in class, and I am so grateful for that support. Volunteers will be invited into the classroom after the first 4 weeks of school. This gives me the time to establish routines, get to know your child, and set some of our schedules. You can indicate your interest in volunteering at Back to School Nighton September 7from 5:30-8:00pmand I can get a schedule established for priceless volunteers!

MEET and GREET before the First Day: We have scheduled this on TUESDAY, AUGUST 15, from 2:00pm-3:00pm!!

You are welcome to pop by on Tuesday, August 15 between 2:00-3:00pm and check out Room 7! Kinder-5th grade will all be open for Meet and Greet during this time.

I’m looking forward to our school year together and working with your precious children in 3rd grade at GVCS!

Warmly,

Ms. Wendy
