Dual Enrollment Fact Sheet

What is the Dual Enrollment program?

The dual enrollment program enables qualified high school students to take college level courses at a reduced tuition rate and simultaneously earn college and high school credits while still in high school. The high school counselor and principal must approve student participation in the program as well as the awarding of high school credit for any course taken.

The program is open to high school juniors and seniors who have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and qualifying college level placement test scores (550-SAT, 21-ACT, or Accuplacercollege level placement).

What are the qualifications?

  • Must have maintained a 94% attendance rate in the previous quarter of high school;
  • Must have an overall, unweighted GPA of at least 3.0;
  • Must enroll in at least one qualifying (non-remedial) College course;
  • Must have met their minimum service learning hour requirement of (75 hours);
  • Must be enrolled in at least the equivalent of a one-credit CCPS course during the semester of the dual enrollment;
  • Must be enrolled in a total of four credits for the semester (CCC and CCPS combined);

What is the cost to the student?

  • Students enrolled in the dual enrollment program will receive a tuition discount for no more than four courses taken over the course of their four semesters of eligibility. Ask your high school counselor or an admissions counselor for tuition information.
  • Students eligible for Free and Reduced Meals will receive a 100% tuition discount for no more than four courses taken, over the course of their four semesters of eligibility, but will still be responsible for college fees.
  • Students taking more than four courses over their four semesters of eligibility must pay full tuition on the additional courses.
  • Additional costs include books and fees.
  • Financial aid is not available for dual enrollment participants.

Dual Enrollment Credit

Dual courses will be reflected on the student’s high school transcripts and the final grade will calculate into the high school GPA.College courses at the 100 level will receive .5 credit CCPS for 1-2 College course credits. And 1.0 credit CCPS for 3-5 College course credits. Dual enrollment courses will be weighted as a transcripted/AP course and may count toward graduation requirements.

Registration Process for Students

  1. Student AND parent meets with high school counselor
  2. Student/parent post-secondary planning conference
  3. Review eligibility for Dual Enrollment
  4. Discuss how grades will count toward sports eligibility (if applicable) & graduation
  5. Begin the Dual Enrollment application
  1. Student applies to CCC
  2. Complete the enrollment application online or paper
  3. Take the Accuplacer or present qualifying SAT (550) or ACT (21) scores to the Admissions Office. Call Admissions to schedule an appointment to test at 410-386-8430.
  4. Student presents test scores to high school counselor for Dual Enrollment approval
  1. Student completes the online pre-advising session if approved to register:
  1. Student meets with an admissions counselor or academic advisor to register for College courses. The high school Dual Enrollment form is required at this meeting to finalize registration.
  1. After registering at CCC, student brings Dual Enrollment form back to the high school counselor for final approval and signatures. High school counselor makes schedule adjustments.
