3.All school rules apply in the classroom. See Student Handbook for information on attendance, make-up work, tardies, electronic devices, dress code, and school behavior

Personal laptops, Kindles, Nooks, IPads etc. are NOT PERMITTED, nor is the use of any device for sending or receiving texts or which proves to be a distraction. Attempting to charge your cell phone in class will result in disciplinary action.
5.FIELD TRIPS: As per school policy, students who attend field trips should REQUEST THEIR WORK PRIOR to missing class. Students who miss class for a field trip will be expected to return to school WITH ALL WORK CURRENTand will NOT be permitted an additional grace period to turn in work.
6. Please respect my personal space. Do not sit at my desk or podium. Do not take things from my desk, drawers, podium, cabinets, bookcases, etc. Please ask prior to logging onto student computers. Attempting to log in on or use the teacher computer without consent is a violation of school policy and will result in disciplinary action.
7.Grooming and restroom use should be done between classes and on your own time.
8. Anytime a substitute teacher is present, you are expected to follow the same class rules that are in effect when I am present.
GRADING
Stewarts Creek High School runs on a nine-week grading system. Bell Work/Language Activities/Writing Activities are given daily. When the bell rings, you should be in your assigned seat, completing the short assignment in your composition book. The purpose of these activities is to practice short answer writing and stimulate critical thinking in anticipation of the daily lesson.
Assignments not turned in on time will be placed on the ICU list. If an assignment is late due to an absence, you have 5 days to make it up without penalty. You may be expected to make up work earlier as we approach the end of a grading period so your grades are accurate on report cards. Late assignments will have points deducted based on the number of days. Don’t let this become an issue.
READING
In addition to short stories, we will have a few long readings throughout the year. You are responsible for obtaining a copy of each title for yourself (see required supplies). You may borrow copies from the library, but it is highly recommended that you purchase copies of each work so you can write in the margins, highlight, and annotate as you read. These titles are widely available and can be purchased secondhand through used bookstores or on Amazon. As potential college students, you are expected toread and analyze the books for yourself.
Textbook—Holt McDougal Literature Grade 12 (can be accessed online).
*If you require a hard copy of the textbook, please see me and I will assign you a book.
PLAGIARISM
According to Merriam-Webster, plagiarism means “to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own: use (another's production) without crediting the source.”
Proper use of MLA citations (see MLA Handbook Eighth Edition or online at Purdue Online Writing Lab MLA Eighth Edition) will be taught and expected in all writing assignments. Failure to attribute another’s work will result in disciplinary action in accordance with school policy and may result in a grade of 0 for the piece if evidence of plagiarism is found.
FYI: Writing pieces are run through a computer program to detect evidence of plagiarism. Don’t do it.
