Part B: Feedback Details

Standards achieved by candidates
Two candidates submitted portfolios which contained interesting and purposeful evidence. Details of activities are outlined in assignment briefs which illustrate clearly what candidates are required to do. Candidates complete declaration forms. Assessor has signed to authenticate the evidence.
ESWE3C1.1 Speaking and Listening
A range of discussion has been evidenced which incorporate all the elements of feelings, opinions etc. Examples include group discussion about the new student lounge and Water Aid. Candidates made notes to plan for their group discussions. A course review has also been used to capture a natural opportunity to evidence speaking and listening skills – this is a very good scenario which enables the learner to benefit from speaking and listening skills being made explicit in this natural setting. Assessor has confirmed that relevant criteria and range have been met by completing useful recording documents.
ESWE3C1.2 Reading
Candidates read documents and completed answers to questions/filled gaps in order to convey their understanding. In some instances the documents are a little complex for this level, although it has been confirmed that the candidate was able to deal with this scenario and this matter is to be addressed for future learning activities.
ESWE3C1.3 Writing
Candidates produced rough drafts of their written documents before presenting their final copies. Examples include production of a poster about hand-washing which involved writing sentences to accompany relevant images and completion of a Supporter Registration Form for the charity Water Aid.
Assessment
Candidates have been provided with excellent opportunities for development and assessment of each of the elements of Communication to meet the requirements at this level.Assessor has provided confirmation that candidates met the requisite criteria and has also provided very good, encouraging feedback, an important element in the effective development of skills.
Misinterpretation
There is no misinterpretation evident.
Internal Verification & Standardisation
Thestandard of Internal Verification is excellent – issues picked up through the quality process were actioned prior to presentation of portfolio evidence. A very effective and well documented system.
Additional Comments
Evidence is very purposeful, relating either to the vocational programme or to important wider learning (ESDGC).

Part C: Action Plan
