DATE AND SUMMARY OF COUNSELING:

1. Rating Chain: CPT Whitener, LTC Keaveny

2. Those you Rate, I senior Rate: PSG, SFC King

3. Sustain:

a. Combat patrols/Leadership: The most tactically proficient platoon leader in the company. Responsible for establishing ambush on 4 December that resulted in two AIF KIA, and at least one AIF WIA, 22 December’s contact – successfully prevented any friendly casualties and integrated HCAS/CCA into fight. Developed the “Oberg Model” of counter IEDs. Selected to act as commander in my absence.

b. Planning / Conceptualizing, MDMP, staff interaction, executing: Capable of staying updated from interaction with staff. Provides insight into “leaf eater” activities: PSYOPS, IO, etc. Work on TLPs, will have plenty of opportunities when acting as commander.

c. Teamwork: developed a very effective platoon that is a family, also very lethal.

Your Input:

a.

b.

c.

4. Focus:

a. Maturity. Act like a senior LT about to become a commander. Your performance speaks for itself, make sure you carry yourself as such. From the time I was a PL in combat it was exactly one year until I was a commander. Put aside the strippers and boozing, you can get away with it as an LT, not as a commander.

b. Troop leading procedures: never miss the opportunity for self improvement by forcing yourself to do a full blown OPORDER. A common mistake among combat PLs is to finger drill the TLPs.

c. Acceptance: don’t focus on your platoon accepting you – focus on your platoon respecting you and your leadership.

Your Input:
