ROLE OUTLINE

OVERVIEW OF Directorate

The Corporate Services Directorate consists of the Finance, IT, People and Organisational Development, Facilities, Legal and Business Planning and Reporting teams.

The core purpose of the People and Organisational Development team is to support our employees and trustees in all of their work. Our objective is to ensure they have the right tools and development to enable them to be the best they can be and to support the organisation towards achieving its strategic objectives.
The support we provide includes: recruitment and selection; reward; HR policy; learning and development; organisation development; performance management and talent and career management.
We work across all Departments and with all teams to ensure that we involve our people in the development of our people policies and practices. We are proactive in our approach and the support we give is designed to promote a culture which encourages openness, effectiveness and accountability.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To partner with HR colleagues and key stakeholders to provide a complete range of proactive and professional HR services to Breast Cancer Now through an innovative, customer focussed HR function.

KEYACCOUNTABILITIES

Leadership and Management

  • Contribute to the development of, and be responsible for the delivery of, an annual plan for HR that supports the delivery of the POD strategic plan.
  • Manage the HR team, including volunteers and interns as appropriate, taking responsibility for their performance and development.
  • Be responsible for managing the HR operations budget.
  • Support the Assistant Director of People and Organisation Development and Senior Learning and OD Business Partner on any organisation change project as required.
  • Deputise for the Assistant Director on HR issues when required.

Reward and recognition

  • With the Senior Learning and OD Business Partner, develop and maintain a reward and recognition structure which is simple, transparent, fair, and which offers opportunities for progression.
  • Ensure that the employee benefits package is competitive, attractive and valued - manage appropriate providers.
  • Ensure that job evaluations and salary reviews are carried out fairly and effectively.
  • Ensure that the Assistant Director of People and Organisational Development is equipped with the necessary information for presentation to Board representation including providing sound recommendations for pay and benefit reviews.
  • Oversee the preparation of the monthly payroll, pension contributions and other benefits, and annual pay review process.

Resourcing

  • Ensure that Breast Cancer Now is viewed as an employer of choice with an attractive and engaging recruitment brand.
  • Deliver a fair, equitable, consistent and comprehensive recruitment service.
  • Work with leaders to plan, and recruit for, the people they need (in terms of shape, skills and numbers) to deliver the charity’s plans in the short and long term.
  • Maximise use of budgets and internal HR systems to reduce the burden and cost of recruitment processes whilst maintaining excellent internal and external customer service.

Colleague relations

  • Ensure that all HR policies and processes meet legislative and best practice requirements whilst reflecting the organisation culture and facilitating common sense decision making.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to all colleagues and managers on any HR related policy or procedure.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the HR function has the systems, processes and procedures to minimise administration.
  • Collect, analyse and benchmark people data to ensure senior leaders can make informed decisions on people issues in their directorates.
  • With the Senior Learning and OD Business Partner, ensure that all new colleagues are welcomed into the organisation and receive a full and engaging induction on the new organisation, processes, behaviours etc.
  • Any other duties as directed by and agreed with line manager

PERSON SPECIFICATION

EXPERIENCE

We’d like you to have experience...

  • in a similar role in HR demonstrated by HR experience and a CIPD qualification (or equivalent)
  • of initiating, developing and implementing effective HR systems
  • of implementing fair, benchmarked and attractive pay and reward strategies
  • in managing exciting and innovative recruitment brands
  • of managing, developing and coaching people

Band:3a

Salary:£34,000 - £47,000

Contract:9 months maternity cover (could be extended to 12 months)
