When you read , you often guess the meaning of new words . Sometimes , however ,you need to use a dictionary. In a dictionary there are some skills such as guide words, entry words , pronunciation , parts of speech , definitions and sample sentences.

Guide Words help you find the word you want to look up. There are two boldface guide words at the top of each page.

An entry word is the word that you look up in the dictionary. Entry words are listed in alphabetical order. Words that have more than one syllable are divided by dots.

The Pronunciation shows how the word is said. Also there is the part of speech of the entry word. For example, v.stands for verb.

The definition gives the meaning of the word. Sample sentences are given to show how the word is used or to clarify the meaning.

You need to keep in mind that using a dictionary is a skill. The only way to learn how to use it, is by actually using it.

Kareem did not expect that his trip to Kuwait last year to be so inspiring . He attended the Islamic Youth Conference with a group of friends . He got the chance to meet many interesting young people . In spite of their young age , they had big dreams , not only for themselves , but for the world around them .

Kareem met Jasim , a computer whiz from Bahrain . He is going to become a computer programmer when he grows up . Jasim says he can use computers to serve Islam . He hopes to provide Muslim Children with interesting Cartoons and games that teach them Islamic values and beliefs .

Our sense organs; nose, ears, eyes, tongue and skin start working when something from the outside world stimulates them. They take the information in and send it to the brain.

Many scientists say we actually have nine senses; sight, hearing , taste, touch, smell, pain, balance, thirst and hunger. The first five are known as external senses. They provide us with information about the outside world. The other four senses are the internal senses. They provide information about what we feel inside our bodies. For example, the sense of hunger shows that our body needs food.

In short, without our senses life would be very difficult. They are our only way of getting information from the outside world. They are a great blessing from Allah.
