The Owl’s letter delivery service

An owl has the job of delivering 5 letters in just one night.

The Owl starts at the Ministry of Magic, then flies to Harry's house. He returns back to the Ministry of Magic, then takes the next letter to Ronnie’s house. After each delivery, the owl returns to the Ministry of Magic to pick up the next letter.

· The other people he delivers a letter to that night are:

· Sirius Black

· Howler

· Harmony.

Unfortunately, the owl got all of the way to Ronnie’s house before he realised he had forgotten to take the letter with him. He had to repeat that journey.

At the end of the night, he had to return back to Harry’s house to fetch his reply and then return it to the Ministry of Magic.

The distance from the Ministry of Magic to the different locations are:

· Harry’s house – 15 miles

· Ronnie’s house – 10 miles

· Harmony’s house – 20 miles

· Sirius Black – 25 miles

· Howler 35 miles

1. On a piece of paper, list the complete route that the owl takes that night, showing all of the return journeys that he makes and also the repeated journeys.

2. Set up a spreadsheet to calculate how many miles the owl flew that night. It might look something like the one below:

Destination / Distance / Number of Journeys / Total Distance

3. You will need to write a formula in the cells shaded blue to calculate the number of miles that the owl flew.

4. Underneath the total number of miles flown during the night, write a formula to calculate the average distance the owl travelled over the journeys

5. Write a formula to find out the furthest journey that the owl flew that night

6. Write a formula to find out the shortest journey that the owl flew that night

7. Add a suitable piece of clip art to your spreadsheet

8. Add a suitable heading to your spreadsheet

9. Format the table with a background colour and a border

10. Create two different charts of your choice with suitable titles and labels.

11. Make sure that your spreadsheet has your name in a footer.

12. Set your spreadsheet to print on one page. Print out your:

· spreadsheet

· formula sheet

· charts

13. Annotate these sheets and put them into your project.
