MRS. SMITH’S POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

WELCOME TO MATH CLASS. HERE’S TO A SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR ALL!

CODE OF CONDUCT:1. Be on time and prepared for class.

  1. Be an active participant.
  2. Show respect for all people and property.
  3. Work diligently and put your best effort forward.
  4. Act appropriately.

SCHOOL RULES WILL BE ENFORCED!

MATERIALS:Daily requirements: 3 ring binder, a pencil/pen, paper, and a TI-83/84.

NOTEBOOK:You are responsible for having an organized three-ring binder. Notes must include the date, lesson number, topic, and all examples given in class. You should have at least the following sections: (1) class notes, (2) homework, and (3) test/quizzes. You might want to create a fourth section in the back of your notebook for any new formulas/vocabulary. The folder should include all handouts, quizzes and tests in proper order.

HOMEWORK:Homework is assigned almost every night. Answers should be in complete sentences, or the problem and work should be shown. It is to be labeled correctly and done completely, preferably in pencil. Daily homework assignments are worth 2 point if completed in full. Homework must be checked and corrected during the class review. If no formal assignment is given, then reviewing the chapter and your notes is the assignment for the night. You will be responsible to keep a homework log in your notebook that will be stamped everyday when homework is checked.

QUIZZES/TESTS:All tests and quizzes will be taken in PENCIL. Pens will not be allowed, not even erasable. You must come prepared with a pencil, eraser and calculator.

ABSENCES:When absent from school, a student should check with a classmate for any missed assignments and to get a copy of the notes. You will have the same number of days to make up missed work as the number of days you were out. For extended absences, other provisions can be made with the teacher. Any work not made up in a timely manner will be given a zero.

When absent from class for co-curricular activities, the student must get the assignment before missingthe class. It will be due the same time as the work of those who were in class.

Clinic is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:15 until 2:55. Please sign the clinic log every time you come in for help.

GRADING:Grading will be based on points earned. All points earned for homework, tests and quizzes, and any other assignments will be added together for the marking period. The points earned versus total possible points will determine your percentage grade based on the school district’s scale. Midterm and Final exams will be 25% of the 2nd and 4th marking periods.

Students will be given a grade sheet and they are responsible for tracking their own grades. Parents are encouraged to follow the student’s progress via the grade sheet.

MATH IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT!

This class is for you to learn. I will expect full participation by each and every one of you at all times. If you do not participate voluntarily, I will call on you. The greatest amount of learning occurs when you actually perform the task yourself. While I am here to direct the learning, I want you to take control. Math can be fun and exciting if you let your mind explore the possibilities. Let this be the year you push yourself beyond all limits!!!

Have a great year!
