Roaring 1920’s Project - Step Two

After the initial research has been completed, find a topic of interest from the research(must be narrowed down and specific). Find something that you can prove about it. Your thesis should be an argument that has an opposing viewpoint. Use the Writing a Research Question and How to Write a Thesis Statement resources that were given to you in class.

1.  Read two articles about your topic from start to finish.

2.  Complete a who, what, where, when, why, and how analysis of each article and annotate each article using Noodle Tools.

3.  Brainstorm your topic.

4.  Create a research question based upon your brainstorm. This should not be a simple question. This should be a two to three part question.

5.  Create a thesis that answers your research question. Be specific.

6.  Using the library databases (Proquest, Gale), find six total sources.

7.  Cite each source on Noodle Tools.

8.  Using the note card portion of Noodle Tools, create twenty-five note cards. Include the main idea, direct quote or paraphrase, source, and my idea portion of the note card.

9.  The My Idea should include your explanation of the quote or paraphrase and how the quote or paraphrase proves your thesis. (Two sentences)

10. Export your sources to Google Drive. Print.

11.  Drag your note cards to the Outline portion of Noodle Tools and print.

12. Copy and paste your thesis and research question onto Google Drive on its own page. Print.

The Roaring 20s Research Paper – Step 3

Process: Each student will produce a five-page research paper on a narrowed down topic about the Roaring 20s.

The work on the paper will be done in class, in the computer labs, and outside of school. There will be sequential steps in the process of completing this paper, and the students will receive full direction and guidance in the completion of the steps. Please refer to your assignment calendar. You know well in advance what is due and the next step. Missing due dates will result in losing credit for the assignment. You must complete all parts of the assignment because they will count again at the end for a total grade.

Please keep in mind that your best writing is not your first attempt. Good writing demands preparation through brainstorming and revision. This paper should reflect your best. It should be developed over the entire time given on the calendar and should not be the result of a one-night effort. This is perhaps your first chance to develop your research writing skills. Make good use of your time.

Paper is due: January 23, 2015

No late papers/assignments will be accepted. Please use your school Google Drive account to share with me in the event that you are absent on due dates.
