-- Veteran HR Exec Brings Wealth of Knowledge to Growing Bank --

STAMFORD, Conn., Jan. 19, 2011 ─ June Walker recently joined First County Bank as first vice president/director human resources, a new position within the bank. Walker most recently held the title of vice president human resources at Webster Financial Corp., a company she joined in October 2006.

“2010 was a good year for First County Bank and as the company continues to grow, senior management decided to expand the breadth and depth of our human resources department,” said Rey Giallongo, president and COO of First County Bank. “We’re constantly looking for ways to improve operations and created this position to help us grow the business and to provide better service to our customers.”

In addition to Walker’s experience at Webster, she was vice president human resources at NewMil Bank in New Milford, director of human resources at the Catholic Charities of Fairfield County, and director human resources at Executone Information Systems. She began her career as an assistant director of human resources at Louis Dreyfus Corp. in Wilton, Conn.

“Talent development is ingrained in our thinking here at First County Bank. It is integral to change in an organization and it allows us to achieve and maintain a competitive advantage,” explained Katherine Harris, executive vice president of First County Bank. “I look forward to June’s contributions to the company and to her helping build the talent pool of people here who have helped us succeed for 160 years.”

While talent development is typically reserved for top management it is becoming increasingly clear that career development is necessary for the retention of any employee, no matter what their level in the company. Research has shown that a clear career path is necessary for job satisfaction and hence job retention.
