Old/New Business:

*Authentic Literacy (Cousineau): Spoke about Mike Schmoker’s book entitled Focus. We want to focus on that one thing that will really help our students become responsive readers so that they engage in text, know how it relates to themselves and the world around them, to see multiple perspectives and know what text means to them.

Teachers have been tasked with implementing reading across all content areas in different ways from reading textbooks to newspapers, magazines, current event articles, etc. The goal is for students to be reading 150 minutes a day.

*Parent Conference Night and Wolves Night Out (Wolf):

Parents Conference nights are October 25 from 5:30-7 and April 11-opportunity for parents to meet with their child’s team as well as other areas such as elective teachers, guidance counselors, etc.; may also buy spirit wear and pay fees as well as sign up for Skyward; athletics will sell snacks to continue fundraising for gym floors

Wolves Night Out at the Cagan’s Community Library-date is coming and looking to join with Sawgrass Bay Elementary and East Ridge High to make it a bigger event with the purpose of making it easier to meet with students and their families on that end of our school reach

*College and Career Prep (Locuson/Woods):

C2 Prep is opportunity for students and teachers. Gives students life skills for high school and college/career beyond middle school. Allows teachers to get together with their teams to collaborate, plan and assess

Goal is Relevancy and Relationships

FLEX Time-chance for students to pick learning opportunities every week that may be a reinforcement of a concept they need help on, an opportunity to try something new, and to return to an area of study they enjoy.

*As FLEX has rolled out time was spent teaching the students the registration process

*Have dealt with bullying prevention including who to talk to and how to build and foster friendships and relationships

*Will be working on learning profiles including goal setting and surveys about intelligences, strengths/weaknesses and interest surveys

*Not graded

*Has been a smooth rollout-data has shown very few students have not registered (200 first week, 113 this week) but most of those of been because of dual account issues; working with those students to make sure they are registered-can register anywhere there is a computer including the cafetorium where there are two computers

Next Meeting: November 1 at 8am

Meeting adjourned: 8:57 am
